Impacts their renting empires, sov blocks are always suffocating smaller ones and rarely attack similar size or bigger: which is something this next patch is trying to combat among some other things..
What??? Clearly you have never had the Joy of attacking a deathstar which i might add shoots you even if no one is gunning it; sure they may not be used in null or low much likely because local channels provide far too much information (id like to see some changes there tbvh)
In wormholes POS is arguably far superior to medium citadels for a variety of reasons.
You seem to think everything is ‘‘unfair’’ from one side of the coin only, you are not debating an argument merely whining about perceived loss for your own game style.
PS.
You can simply say hello in local; it influences anyone reading it quite heavily.
I used to shoot Deathstars and Dickstars all the time 12 years ago when they were all the rage. They are not harder to take down than Upwell structures, especially for bigger groups. What they indeed prevent are smaller groups from taking space. If you only have a handful of chars, you cannot engage them easily. All it needs are enough chars and ships that shoot outside the tackle range.
I’m currently in an area where the wiseguys from the small local sov alliance drop their MOOBs on a POS with guns. It’s trivial to stay outside the tackle range and wear the MOOB down with a single long range ship and warp away if the damage becomes too much.
Likewise, recently a tryhard solo guy came into the area to mine, dropped a POS with hangar arrays, corp storage, refinery, guns. It got shot down days later. Poor guy.
That is not the same in any way to structures providing local chat capabilities.
And that’s why Szys suggests that people should be forced to take more space to have more room to use infrastructure. Sounds logical.
Ah, u are a goon; makes sense now. Try doing it without 1000 titans. In essence its not the POS thats easier to takedown, its the damage cap that slows you down on citadels - this does indeed make POS harder to takedown - damage cap just makes citadels slower.
Which is a good reason for these changes.
Correct, see you ARE getting it.
One of the amazing things about people is their ability to carry on upon a path even though they know it to be wrong just for the sake of attempting to save face…
Likely why you post on an alt too.
How so? Where I live, there are no jump bridges. And it was taken down by the people who try their hardest to “live” in the area.
You don’t get it, obviously.
POS have massive HP to compensate and CCP introduced the same huge HP on Upwell again with the damage cap free shield layer. In essence, it takes about the same amount of time to RF a POS as the equivalent Upwell structure.
Not really? Nowadays you have however many good moons with athanors/metas+a tatara+a Sotiyo+keepstar/fortizar vs having every moon with a pos stick on it in every system you want to take. Sure back then you only need 50% +1 but killing all of them and putting up your own was just a good idea. Like at worst, you have the same amount of structures.
I’ll leave that answer to people actually engaging in structure bashing right now (I did my fair share of it 10+ years ago), but aside from being able to use a small tower as a FOB or a super pit stop that uses less fuel and requires less time to online, the current structures meet the common uses.
Thats what the guy doesn’t understand. You can reinforce an Upwell Citadel of a small group overnight with a handful of cheap T1 alts. Cruisers, Kikis, Battlecruisers. You risk absolutely nothing, invest peanuts and can even hide your identity as attacker if you use Alpha toons. (In fact I have half a dozen Oracle Toons for exactly that scenario).
They neither shoot back nor can they reliably tackle you even if someone logs in. You simply warp out and come back a few hours later. Or the next night. Or early in the morning 3 days later. You can harass a small groups structure(s) to death this way. And since M-structures only have 1 timer and they never know who will come to that timer, they have to run a full-evac every time. They have to do a full ping and defense-fleet formup. And all you have to do is to repeatedly send some cheap Kikis whenever the owners are offline.
Truth be told: I have been called for help defending ~20 Upwells over the last years of small groups to prevent them being evicted from wormholes. I have never been called to help defending a reinforced Large Tower. Not once.
No idea if we “needed” 13 dreads. We used 13 dreads because we could and were uncontested.
You are comparing a Large POS to a Medium structure, by the way. That’s not an appropriate comparison. Try to find a Fortizar instead.
Besides, it’s not impossible to defang a Death Star either. They can also be harassed ad nauseam. That’s what Szyg doesn’t get. And that Structures don’t automatically shoot stuff down is also a development failure of CCP. We were promised gun platforms like POS guns for structures, but they never delivered on that.
Sure, a T2 fitted Battle-Astra inc. Rigs and Core does cost around the same as a well-armed Large Tower.
A Fortizar cost 30B in a good combat fit. And up. THAT is a ridiculous comparison. And btw. the reason small groups don’t use them. They simply don’t have the cash to replace that very often and it won’t live long enough to even return the investment.
And tbh, with most gang compositions I rather fight on a Forti grid than a defending gang that has a Large Tower with 40 jammers in the back.
Yeah, if you either have 30 people or 12 hours straight. With 5 Cruise Ravens “sniping” a Large Tower, hoping it can’t return fire at 300km, you can shoot from midnight to morning and won’t reinforce it. A handful of cheap Alphas reinforces any M-Structure in less then an hour.
The latest news on this shows more planning going into this game change. Any suggestions for an alternative approach to this problem statement:
It’s a problem because it means that these powerful groups can respond to activity in a space outside of their operations too quickly, effectively intervening in smaller-scale conflicts and making it nearly impossible for newer groups to get any meaningful foothold in areas of space like nullsec.
Excerpt from this news blog:
With the recent addition of Exordium, it does suggest an alternative route to make space for new players. Why not extend sovereign null space by a decent factor, like 2-4 times the current number of sovereign null regions? Provide a travel path from an NPC null system to each new region. Make sovereign null space too big for the current force projection methods. Create literal space for new groups to enter sovereign null space.
