and yet none of those I talk too seem to be, and multiboxers are active in most of the large alliances in EvE.
Your anecdotes do not line up with mine, surely that is obvious, or we would not be having this discussion.
There’s plenty of activities, like war, or village football, or even marrow growing competitions at the local fair, where there’s no limit on how many mates you can have, or times you can enter. Just because many games place limits on such things does not make it automatically correct to do so. EvE is different from other games and that’s why I play it. I’m not looking for a fair fight, I’d play some MOBA, or NvN style game like MWO if I wanted that.
This is not an answer to the question. This is just you stating your much repeated sentiment that mass-multiboxing is bad. I want to know why? What is it about some chap 5 systems over flying 20 hulks at once that upsets you more than 5 people flying 4 hulks each?
sry man, I really lose interest… you move goalposts left and right, twist words and bring new strawmen.
nobody is talking about multiboxing. The issue is mass multiboxing ships for the same purpose to scale up individual power.
Nobody talks about “fun activities”. EVE is an competitive multiplayer online game and it’s attractivennness shrinks (aka the margin of possible customers gets more narrow) the more powercreep you have in the game that gives an average player the impression he either could not compete the slightest or would have to turn this into a fulltime grind. Most game companies understand that. It’s not a complex concept.
Because one chad can log in those 20 on demand any time he wants. In terms of resource grinding, he can take away sites that are then gone for the other players once they log in. Instead of 4 or 5 people of a corporation or alliance having a group activity and they share the profits to then team up and build something (yeah the main motivation to run corporations and alliances, that was the unique feeling about EVE we once had), it all goes into the pockets of a single person.
Especially in wormhole space where stuff doesn’t simply respawn endlessly like in null, a real problem. But also when it comes to the Icebelts of HS. Mass-Multiboxers clear whole systems dry of sites and when others logg in one by one in the evening, they have barren space or need to go deeper into much more hostile terretory while the one guy just needed an hour of free time to basically wipe it all clean. That is antisocial. And I like to have it removed from the game.
It becomes even worse in fighting, when one or two massmultiboxers band together to attack a small group. The group always have to deal with RL issues, need to ping, need to formup, need to adress skill differences, timezones, they need to communicate. A massmultiboxer attacking them with his own alt-army at any time can reinforce their structures, camp their connections, ambush their transporters any time. No real group can field 10+ support at any given time, they will always be limited to their groups “prime time” to group up. The multiboxer can do it 9 in the morning, 12 at noon. Retreats if they actually have enough, log off for some hours and a gain bring full force at 15, at 21, or 3 in the night. He just needs one clock and has 20 ships ready. Something a real group of real players simply can’t match. Maybe once, maybe twice, but in the long run he just tires them out due to the simple need of coordination on their side.
And all those “yeah but if 20 real people would have attacked!!111” … is nonsense. The chances alone that 20 real people would meet up and do it is magnitudes lower and those would have the same problem of coordinating sustained attack attempts over time. So with dedication you an actually make them retreat because it gets too much effort to ping and form over days.
There is a reason most people want MASS multiboxing to be limited in some way or another. And for sure it’s not envy or “butthurtism”. It’s a common sense for what makes a good game and what doesn’t.
You just said that one guy with 20 accounts can always beat you at EvE. Which is bad, you need to get better, or quit playing.
The problem isn’t multiboxers, or mass-multiboxers, its people wanting to nerf EvE because they are not good enough to play it the way it has been made.
No I didn’t. But as I said, this isn’t a fruitful discussion any more.
Someone who can field 20 ships on demand any time, from early in the morning to deep in the night will always being able to harass the crap out of a real group of 20 people who have 20 jobs, 20 families, 20times connection or hardware issues, 20x vacation time and so on. It’s just logical.
And especially counting in that M-structures (which are the only ones really affordable for a group of casuals) have only 1 timer after being reinforced, you always have to either form a max-defense or a full-evac operation. Else you risk losing everything on it. That is a pressure no group can endure for long, but a massmultiboxer can, because it takes him less than 10 minutes to setup his little army and one scout to check if the defenders have enough or not, which is highly unlikely anyway if he picks attack times out of their timezone.
I really get the impression I am talking to someone who just have very little real experience in leadership positions so he actually knows how it feels to run and coordinate small, medium or large groups of real players and all their individual issues over a longer time period.
That being said, you stripped yourself naked in this discussion. Thats not my fault, I tried my best to explain my PoV.
At least that has to be done actively, the destination can’t be pre-determined, the exit can be crashed by the owners of the target area and the mass you can squeeze through is very limited.
Wouldn’t nullseccers not more or less instantly roll away detected wormholes in their space and map them instead, they’d had a lot of movement shortcuts as well.
Value of ships go up…valuation of industrial characters go up…[we can make arguments for buffs to industrial systems] valuation of ship upgrades and min-maxing goes up.
If you also implode multiboxing…this means skill farming collapses in. Which means people can’t just jump to end game content through skill injection.
It also means Fenris gets more direct purchasing of stuff on their market place. People may or may not like me for saying that…but the direct financing of EVE Online will be good.
