@theRaptor, myself, and some others have been trying to do just that, but it would require a complete rebuild of the way wars are tracked on the back end, otherwise you start looking at exponentially-growing Crimewatch checks, and as we learned in Hakonen, Crimewatch produces tidi and system lag much faster than N+1 does.
Gimme 4000 people in null, I’ll have less tidi than 500 fighting in highsec.

Finally, but you should put a bigger restriction on the HQ locations. Exclude the HS pockets, confine them to main HS Empire space.
Hakonen and Vey were worse than any null max blob fight I’ve been in. And I’ve been in pretty much everything since WWB except X47. Even less than a thousand in local fights in low/hi are horrible due to crime watch.
War ally is a state in the game (at least is an overview option if I remember correctly). I would think that already being in the game would make something this possible. I don’t know how it affects the performance of the servers, that is someone else’s problem to solve.
Did you get the node reinforced for that fight?
Because those 4k null fights do tend to be very organised and reinforced. Which does make a difference.
War ally as a state is only available on the defending side. Near as I can tell, it’s because wars are tracked as a table entry on the attacker’s corporate database structure. That’s where the problem is: wars would have to be their own database table, with the sides involved tracked there, on each war.
I’d take a 4000-person Nullsec fight on an unreinforced node over a 500-man fight in an otherwise empty Jita (on the Jita supernode).
I hope a rewrite of the war dec system was something already being considered and planned. I am sure the talented programs in CCP would be able to accommodate the necessary changes in order to preserve valid game play for the denizens of Eve.

Well yeah but Jita is special and has other issues that keep it slow.
So far in this thread every proposal has had a significant flaw in it for how to allow such a thing.
Even the whole idea of a group war tracked on both sides falls down in points, because you can end up with 2 wars which overlap, if war 1 is ABCD vs 1234 & war B is BEFG vs 3567. What happens now? Does it become one mega war simply because B is involved, despite ACDEFG & 124567 not wanting to be in one mega war?

At which point you could probably end up with the same corp on both sides of a war at once. By chaining together two separate wars with a third mini war in the middle. (might need 4).
And that would probably crash the server in some horrible way.
And really really screws over the small guys with how easy it is to suddenly make them at war with goons/pl/etc.
