Note the ramp up from Sept 23
I think there’s always a dip in the summer months. Because, you know… grass.
Everyday I see more and more obvious massive multiboxers in game. 10+ toons with very similar names. So it is not an assumption. If more players multiboxes and PCU doesn’t go up then it is logical that it means that the actual player count is going down.
There are, and won’t be, no real evidence to support either claims, so it stupid to use “you have no evidence to support your claim” as an argument.
So we can stop discussing based on assumptions and just play the game as long as we have funand the server keeps on running, right?
Do you not agree with my logic or observations? Today I saw three more 10+ multiboxers undocking from Jita.
One does not need hard evidence to see that multiboxing is rising. And if multiboxing is rising, and PCU is about the same, then that leaves us with just one explanation doesn’t it?
The “EVE is strong as ever” crowd just refuses to accept it.
I’m going to quote your post with all evidence removed and you tell me if you take it as seriously after.
Hard evidence. The “eve is strong as ever crowd” will not accept anything less than hard data from CCP. Which we won’t get.
The evidences that support the claim that EVE Online is losing players are there. They just don’t want to accept it, most likely because they wouldn’t be able to justify them playing. Or idk why else. I suppose that some players keep defending EVE and claiming it is storng as ever even when there will be 10k players online in prime time. I think we have 10 more years before that happen…
I don’t necessarily think “EVE is strong as ever”. I think the game as a whole is a lot better than it’s been for a few years (one reason I returned).
I don’t know if Equinox (and the subsequent expansion) will have the desired effect of attracting more new players or encouraging older ones to return, but there are indications CCP is finally moving in the right direction.
That’s pushing it a bit lol.
I do agree that the number of visible (mass) multiboxing accounts has gone up. Especially since the homefront implementation it has even become very obvious, because you can see the 5-osprey-fleets (or 5-augorors etc.) at every corner in highsec and it is quite obvious that those aren’t different players cooperating. However, you can’t know if these aren’t simply the same guys who had 5+ accounts basically forever and just changed activity because something else is less lucrative these days than just multiboxing homefront sites. I also believe the gankers these days have more accs on average than in the old times, but thats just a feeling since I didn’t pay attention to ganking in the first years of EVE.
However, since I was in a Direx/Ceo-Position of medium sized corporations since 2009, I also have quite good insight about the number of chars/accs the average member in my environment is using and that has not changed that much. Around 2009/2010 the absolute majority of the guys I have played with had 2 accounts, mostly for pure convenience purposes, to have your own scout or to send some hauler back and forth to the tradehub getting new ships and ammo or bringing back loot, while you were doing PvE or PvP which was often very time-consuming back then. Some few had a third account, mainly for a capital or jumpfreighter. The number of people having more than 3 accs were extremely rare (or they had additional accounts they never used with the main corp…, I can’t know that).
In my current corp the majority also has 2, some 3, accounts. Very few have more than 3. And the “newbros” start makingtheir second account mostly after the same playtime than we did back then.
So, after all I can agree that mass-multiboxing is more visible today and it seems logical that if the numbers of accs go up but the total logged-in players stays the same, the number of real players has to be lower. But since we don’t really know if it is a real inrease or just an increase of visibility, we can’t know that and I honestly think it’s moot to discuss it, since we just have no access to the data required. Our time is spent better just enjoying the game as is at long as it lasts. CCP won’t ever cut down mass-accounting anyway, because it brings them money.
True. But that doesn’t mean that player count isn’t going down. It just means that we don’t know when this happened. But it has happened, a lot of these players online are multibox alts. And certainly there is more of them today than before 10 years.
Every new ganker is basically told he needs to multibox at least 5 accounts. I do have content and knowhow for single-account ganking, but the rookies I recruit either move onto 5+ multiboxing meta or quits. Everyone is ganking for their own, it is more efficient, more profitable and there are no disputes between loot dividing.
Probably the only corporation that (sometimes) does suicide ganking without multiboxing is Absolute Order.
In my opinion, CCP enforced this meta upon us with barges and exhumers EHP buff (And of course alphas red safety ban in highsec). These were previously our typical targets because it didn’t take 5 pilots to kill them. And there was rarely any good loot so those who were doing it, were doing it for killmail or salt not profit. Hence no disputes about loot dividing and no reliance on corp leader to prepare ships. Everyone used to bring his own. Then the massively buffed mining ships EHP and now it takes (to kill exhumer reliably) so many players that nobody can actually field. Only the hardcore gankers are still ganking barges since it brings no profit. Those who have accounts to kill exhumers rather go for DSTs or abyssal runners now as there is profit in it.
A little offtopic, but can bring some light into the discussion.
Hippie
Acually it is. They could be working in a sweatshop. Do you think they come up with creative names in sweatshops like Vokan Narky?
Trouble with the outside of your cofin…fang?
Steady decline since 2010s, and below the 36k period average currently.
Anything else I can do for you ?
Ok, I saw “Eve is as strong as ever” and I just have to start with …
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.
As for the topic, if player count ever goes up, I am sure CCP will be spewing propaganda about it everywhere. As long as they are too scared to talk about it, they are still pushing players out of the game.
Well since you asked, Zaera is space poor.
You can start by sending her 100 bilion ISK or 50% of your assets, whichever is the greatest.
What makes you think I don’t play the game ?
You presumptuous cretin.
Get gud.
There is no evidence you do.
This is what death looks like. Peak of 18,653 players down to 2,938 players on EVE (Serenity).
It looks like EVE (Tranquility) has lost about 10-12k players during the same timeframe - or gained 10-12k players since a low in 2022. I imagine we’ll see a gradual increase back to 38-40k players by the end of 2024 (after summer).
