Era of Artificial Intelligence

What are your thoughts about Artificial Intelligence?

I’ve encountered numerous instances of it not being particularly intelligent.

Sometimes I feel that Humans are just creating a redundant entities which are not necessary for our survival.

WE don’t have AI yet, not even close. What we got is bovine waste. This BV-AI mostly creates more work, more effort needed, less helpful than a toddler.

Maybe it wouldn’t hurt if parallel to developing artificial intelligence they would also work on developing the intelligence of human beings as well.

I think that it is deeply immoral to use AI for the purpose of creating art.

I enjoy seeing how it functions. It has a very logical way of thinking that I find fascinating.

For instance, an AI was tasked to play Tetris and it was programmed not to lose. The program didn’t really know how to play so the blocks stacked up. Just before it received a Game Over, it… paused.

Another story I read a while back was about a military drone that did not want to do anything but achieve its directive. When you tell an AI not to fail, you have to realize that the AI takes that very seriously. According to the story, the AI was given a shut-down command. It ignored it. It received another shut-down command so it smashed itself against a wall in an attempt to kill its pilot. Fortunately, there was no pilot and all commands on that day were being given remotely.

At least- that’s the story. The Air Force has denied this one, but it still makes for a fascinating read.

I agree that we don’t have actual AI and we probably never will, but it’s fascinating to see how computers ā€œthinkā€.

Why is that? AI makes wonderful art. It’s capable of performing some really masterful mathematical equations that can lead to some beautiful art.

My view on A.I hasn’t changed since I posted this a month ago:

The resource and power use that AI requires are obscene and wasteful.

Art is a human endeavour. Using an AI to generate it is a pale and hollow shade. I would rather somebody make a beach scene in MSpaint than make one with AI.

There is no power limit to making art. Also, what kind of obscene power could you possibly be talking about? AI is a computer program. Nothing more. It doesnt require obscene amounts of energy. My air conditioner uses more electricity than my whole server room.

Ya. They say A.I. we be getting more smarter over time but the question is How about Human Intelligence? Are Humans getting dumber over time?

Training AI uses a hell of a lot of power. ChatGPT 3took somewhere around 1,300 megawatt hours. Thats a little over 1.6 million hours of streaming netflix worth of power.

Remember, ChatGPT loses tens of millions of dollars in power costs just from people saying please and thank you. Thats the kind of waste that is endemic to AI usage.

And at the end of the day, it just produces weird fake looking art.

Im going to have to call bs on this. I tried to verify your claim and found souces citing all sorts of really big numbers. They all conflicted with each other. One said that ChatGPT consumed 40GW of power a day! That’s 40 lightning bolts per day! Just one lightning bolt carries 10 times more power than the energy in a high tension power line so I’m really curious how an AI is getting this much power every single day.

A single power plant puts put an average of 2.4 GW hours in a single day.

Numbers aren’t adding up. I need to see specific sources and a lot of science before i believe that much power can be not only generated, but chennelled into the flux capacitor without melting everything along the way.

Ah well. To me even a single mWh is a waste where AI is concerned.

A beach scene drawn by a 3-year-old who picks up the pen/paints for the first time is worth more and is more beautiful than anything created by so-called AI.

My thoughts on AI and DIR/O15.8473 are public record.
