As part of [Project Firebird] (https://www.reddit.com/r/Eve/s/Dps5Y5Entm), we’re giving the EVE University Wiki a much-needed revamp, starting with a full upgrade to the latest version of MediaWiki and a fresh new look using the Citizen skin.
This update will be happening this week, so if you visit the wiki and things look a bit different (or even kinda broken in places) don’t panic!
We’re in the process of updating templates, layouts, and styling to match the new, modern theme. You may spot a few pages that look a little rough around the edges while we get things polished.
What’s Changing?
A cleaner, more modern layout that’s mobile and user-friendly
A complete upgrade of the underlying wiki software
New extensions and tools coming soon (including better search and visual improvements)
And soon: a brand new Community Guides section focused on practical, subjective “how-to” content for players
We’re incredibly grateful for the support and feedback from the wider EVE community that helped us reach this point. If you’d like to help out, suggest improvements, or contribute content, you can join us on the EVE University Discord as a guest: Connecting to EVE University Services as a Guest - EVE University Wiki
Thanks for bearing with us while we get everything updated - and keep an eye out for more improvements in the coming weeks!
Just to avoid confusion: I’ve just re-posted the announcement to the forums so people here can see it too. I’m not from E-UNI, so all the praise goes to them, not me; and agreed they do a great job since many years.
That is why the update is happening. To bring those outdated pages up to speed. This game is a lot more than just the content. The work is going to be massive and going to take time. It is one of the many efforts that our new CEO has made a priority to see happen.
Updating has been something that has been needed for a very long time. Something that was never really a priority. A lot of us Uni’s have been trying to do it as we can. But now there is a more coordinated effort to get this done and maintain the updates going into the future.
I don’t get it, why an optimisation for “mobile” should be needed at all. Last time i checked, i don’t play EVE on a mobile device, but on a PC, which - you might have guessed it - is also the device where the university wiki is then used to get information while playing.
Shouldn’t it therefore be optimised for desktop friendliness?
I’d suggest that the people who are part of Uni and are in charge, with all these cool titles, access and other privileges do it. Why else be part of EVE Uni, right?
The reason and this is just my opinion. Is that there is always people coming in and going out. Uni is truly a teaching corp. Members are not expected to stay. It is a miss and hit as to whom has enough knowledge and what subject. That can edit an article to bring it up to speed. So having people even outside of Uni helping to edit makes sense.
