Experienced something interesting in mid-sec: a ganking technique

I was warping through a .4 system and actually got hit pretty hard in a frigate while coming out of warp, like more than 10k out from gate. The alarms went off way before I hit the gate. Is that a smart bomb and really good timing or maybe lag?

Luckily I wasn’t in a capsule, shuttle or mini frigate lol.

I’m guessing a good way around that type of gank is to warp to a planet or something between gates then warp to second gate.

Welcome to the concept of smartbomb camps. If you survived, they messed up. Not warping directly to the next gate when there are other chars in system is always a good idea.

0.4 isn’t “mid sec”, it’s a standard LowSec system in which smartbomb camps are pretty common. Especially in systems that have a common gate-to-gate-route often used by travellers in fast frigs or shuttles to shortcut long highsec routes.

If you want to use these shortcuts often, I suggest making “ping spots” (bookmarks) behind the gates in question, at least 150km+ away from the gate, so when you land there, you can warp back to the gate from the other side and the smartbomb BS can’t hit you.

Yes it was a mid-warp smartbomb.
