Explorer fit for Magnate?

Hello,

Please can anybody recommend a good explorer fit for the Magnate? I looked some up but they were ten years old, and I think that mattered because none of them had any combat mods, and relic sites at least have rats now.

You cannot fit a Magnate to fight all rats in these sites and still scan and hack. So you need to find other ways to survive, like always keep half an eye on Overview and fit some Inertial stabilizers to get away swiftly.
A source of plenty of fittings is zkillboard, like this budget Magnate.

Exploration frigates usually aren’t fit with combat mods.

Avoid the combat sites, hack only the ones without enemies. Most of them won’t have enemies.

If you do wish to be able to fight while exploring something larger like a Stratios or T3 cruiser may be a better idea. Or in frigate sizes the Astero and navy issue ships like Magnate Navy Issue are an option, but even those won’t easily clear combat sites full of hostiles.

Focusing only on the non-combat sites like regular data and relic sites, ghost sites and sleeper sites is completely viable, which means you can do it in a frigate without guns. Even if enemies do spawn after a while in ghost sites you can hack and warp off before they arrive if you do it well.

If you’re going to fit a Magnate the ten year old recommended fits likely are still relevant today:

  • probe launcher with 8 but preferably 16 regular probes
  • hacking modules for relics and/or data sites
  • scan upgrades for a mix of scan strength, scan speed and scan deviation
  • a 5MN microwarpdrive
  • ‘gravity’ rig for extra scan strength

Fill the rest of your low slots with stuff like inertial stabilizers for extra agility, damage control for some extra hitpoints, nanofibers for both agility and speed or perhaps a warp core stabilizer. Personally I’d go for full agility.

For the rigs besides a T2 ‘gravity’ rig for extra scan strength I like hyperspatial rigs for faster warp speed, which is nice for an explorer, but CPU or powergrid rigs are good options if the rest of the fit doesn’t fit.

Thank you. Is there a way to identify which sites have rats before warping in?

By name of the site.

By type of the site you should generally ignore the ones that say ‘combat site’ in a non-combat fit.

By name of the site you can try to warp to each site, see what is there and afterwards avoid the ones that you have seen have rats in them. But a safer way than such trial-and-error method is to focus only on the sites that have the local pirate names in their name, like ‘Sanshas’ or ‘Guristas’.

You can find some sources online like the EVE uni wiki with lists of names and the kind of things you can expect there:

Easiest marker: If there is a pirate name like “Serpentis” or “Blood Raider” in a Data site or Relic site, there won’t spawn or wait NPCs (in wormhole sites).

Edit: Two different websites albeit closely, but both worth checking
