FAX - update me please

After coming back from a long break I found out my FAX fittings will not work anymore, due to the cap-booster limitations. Which of the FAXes are still popular, and how to get around the limitations?

A forum-search did not produce any recent postings about FAX, so I assume a new thread will be fine.

Active FAX are pretty weak now.
Most bigger blocs use buffer FAX, to have more spare cap to repair stuff.
