Freighter Rigs

Then use an Avalanche.

I know what you’re aiming for here, so I’m just going to go ahead and give you the bad news. No amount of EHP will save you from a gank. They will bring as many ships as needed.

Not what I was aiming for…

There are only three types of rigs that would benefit a freighter. Speed, EHP, or Cargo. And I highly doubt you’re going for speed, so that pretty much narrows it down…

Speed would be an interesting choice for me, actually - but I wasn’t thinking of any specific application when I made the suggestion. I imagine the Avalanche would have a lot of interesting choices (damage + application).

Speed is a terrible choice for a freighter. Rigs would either shave single digit seconds off minutes long align time or add a tenth of an AU per second warp speed. Either one saves you a minute or two off an hours long journey, and both are a waste of resources in game and out. There are already tricks being used to cut the align time down that are far more effective.

More cargo makes you a bigger target.

More EHP means you sit there and scream longer while the gank fleet picks you apart with a few more ships. You’re still dead before Concord arrives to save you.

There is no amount of DPS from a freighter is somehow going to magically save it from a gank fleet.

Your time is better spend in Eve learning the smart ways to fly things, rather than asking CCP for changes to compensate for your inadequacies.

Pretty sure you could almost double your warp speed. Or significantly reduce your align time.

With diminishing returns, 3x hyperspatial 2s will give you a little over 60% total warp speed. Unless you’re crossing a very large system, your time spent at maximum warp speed is negligible compared to align time, warp acceleration, and deceleration. In a system 60 AU across, 3x hyperspatials will save you maybe 30s.

As far as align time, with diminishing returns you get about 30% agility bonus with low friction nozzle 2s. A Rorqual, the closest mass/agility ratio, piloted by “All 5s” on Pyfa cuts about 10s off the align time. Not a significant reduction by any stretch of the imagination.

If your goal is to travel faster in a freighter, a webbing alt is the best way to do it. Your align time is the lock time of the alt.

I guess having the option of a faster align without sacrificing EHP would still be nice.

No bandaid solutions! Freighters/JFs should have a full fitting concept of Low, Med, High and Rigslots + appropriate CPU/PG values allowing for active fits, reflecting their size, pricetag, skill requirements and racial preferences. After all they are the top-of-the-line hauling ships, it is a shame how poorly they are designed right now.

Good balance is just a matter of clever number crunching for the base hulls, good skill- and role-boni and a clear design goal that CCP defines for these ships. There are viable solutions for all raised “concerns”, not even very difficult ones.

and they showed it can work with 2 freighters … the first one exists a few years and called Bowhead and the second one doesnt exist that long but has also a “normal” shiplayout and called “insert the new infrastructure freighter name”

and RIG slots for freighter doent care … if you choose to have a max cargo freighter then you have a max cargo rigged freighter and if you choose to have a max EHP freighter then you have a second freighter with max EHP ! not that hard … we all have often more then one ship of the same hull for different uses … so there are no excuses because you need to rip the rigs of your hull if you want other rigs … yeah you have to but for all of the other ships ( T3C as exeption ) you have the same “problem”

I thinks you are a god amongst men, https://forums.eveonline.com/t/freighter-rigs/458049/6Vuhdo Rin… ../ /…\ ../ /…|/||/||/||/||/||/||/…\ ../ /…\ ../ \…/ /…\ .…/ / niR]

Really?

Show me where that’s made a single bit of difference in their survivablity.

They just bring a few more Tornados to accomplish the gank.

Freighter rigs aren’t needed because they aren’t going to do you any good. They’re just a placebo that makes you think it’s doing something, when reality is it makes no difference.
