Not really.
Having to react to npc’s that can actually hurt you (fixed with Exhumer/barge buffs) or hot droppers, gankers for highsec - would make mining more interesting.
Having to constantly react to environmental changes that can destroy your ship just adds more tedium to an already tedious task.
Anything predictable isn’t and doesn’t create “interesting” game play, it’s just there.
Fact is, there is no reason to hunt miners aside from “jollies” so it remains boring for both pvp’rs and miners. One of my fav passtimes was dread blobs on Rorqual fleets or ratting supers but CCP decided that wasn’t good game play so took it away.
Adding environmental clouds that can damage your ships only adds tedium to boredom. Sure a few rookie miners might die but overall it would have no long term benefit as established miners would quickly adapt to restore the status quo.
Well, my shield procurer is less tanky now, but that is not what worries me. I used to have perfect reprocessing skills to help my corp, now I have perfect ores reprocessing, but the skillpoints weren’t enough to get all the moon ores as I used to have and that is not what I’ve been promised.
To make matters worse, we got some skillponts, but we need to purchase the new skillbooks.
There are now new moon ore reprocessing skills, that group moon ore the same way the new ore skills do. My old moon ore skills are gone, and thinking about training them again to V kind of makes me sick. I spent near a year for all those skills, and I know now it’'l take less time because it’s only the moon ores now, but it still hits hard.
Old school defintion of carebear to me: is someone who would rather lobby CCP for changes instead of using the in game tools already provided to deal with a situation.
I also tell my people not to play AFK, but since i dont pay for their account, i also tell them that if they get hung up cause they were AFK …to die quietly.
I’ve read a couple of comments about the afk Orca in highsec, while I agree that in ice this is an issue but in belts it absolutely wasn’t. Anyone who thinks an Orca is afk in a belt has never flown one, the roids last a matter of minutes and when you have to re-assign drones individually as rocks are popping it takes a little bit of attention.
With regards to Ice, just have a damage cloud appear while ice is mined that kills drones. Problem fixed, afk Orcas mining ice are done and dusted.
You don’t need to have flown an orca to know the highsec belt ore rocks are microscopic. A Venture can easily deplete the smaller half of the rocks, solo, in a matter of minutes. If it’s Pyroxes, I guess even a Vexor can deplete a rock w/o jetcanning or stuff
The ice whaling is so disgustive. Finanar had 41 orcas crabbing some days ago.
With 41 barges, that ice belt would have been a matter of half an hour, likely less. But with whales …
Bumped some and collected some augmented drones, but got bored after the 5th whale so i just left the remaining whales afk crabbing and those i bumped out didn’t even try to renavigate into the belt, probably they were not put on approach-location mode but instead just stop-movement-ed before the operator went to sleep/work.
Why is an orca “AFK” when mining Ice or Moon ore an ‘issue’ to anybody that requires CCP to fix it?
How come it’s an issue ? the Orca can only have ONE ice harvesting drone out at a time.
The Orca have a massive storage 35k cargo + 40k fleet hangar + 185k ore hold = 260k m3 = 260 ice cubes.
+1 ice cube collected every 5 minutes out of possible 260 = ~22hours of sitting in a belt mining.
Again. How is this an issue ? You can mine alot more with your mackinaw, this is not breaking anyones game that is a really slow process.
Like some have mentioned if this really bothers you , just bump the Orca out far away so you can collect it’s drone and make a profit for free lol.
You don’t want to see an Orca sitting in an ice belt for hours ?
You don’t want to see an Orca sitting in a moon chunk for hours?
You want CCP to nerf it’s mining capabiliies instead ?
Is 50mil - 80mil after 22 hours of harvesting game breaking ?
Will that amount of ice flooded to the market crash the economy?
The issue is fairly obvious.
It’s you.
As for a solution of “You” issues.
Reduce the bandwith size of ice harvesting drone so the Orca can fit 5 of them! Meaning in 4 hours and 30 or so minutes you will have filled up that huge cargo space and everybody is happy.
Nerfing Yield on basis that “But he’s afk we need to nerf them!” Is the oposite of fixing a problem , you just increase it even further.
Ideas of “Yo make toxic cloud so they have to be paying constant attention or else they lose their drones!”. If CCP wanna make mining a TOXIC aspect of the game to appease the cry babies that clearly has NEVER mined ice or moon with an orca before… I’m literally out of words on this one. The idiocity speaks for itself.
An industrialist selling at cost is not and industrialist
The one thing I can’t relate to is all the claims of afk mining.
Leave your orca to mine in null and walk away? NOPE
Lock a rock with your barge and walk away? HUH?
I’m not saying it doesn’t happen (it does) but the claim is drastically exaggerated I think.
I’ve been mining for more then six years (high, low, null,wh) and I must be doing it wrong because at no time have I felt I could ever walk away and leave hundreds of millions of dollars equipment on the field unattended.
The random stars and flashes of light passing by while I’m mining still make my heart jump because if those happen to be a person it’s already to late lol.
Perhaps he can afford to sell to his partners at-cost because he regards the profit from his other transactions as more than sufficient to meet his immediate needs.
Some of this world’s most successful industrialists are also exemplary philanthropists. I don’t say that you are such an one, Vexxor, but they do exist.
They also exist in EVE, I believe; but too narrow a definition of ‘industrialist’ may not help either of us here!
How will the death cloud distinguish between AFK miners and those who are actively playing the slow game in an ice field?
Best solution to AFK ice mining is a good bump - Send an Orca flying away from the ice field will soon show if the owner is AFK or not BUT yeah asking CCP to “fix” a misnomer for you is easier right…
Or if you really think someone is AFK, mine the same rocks he/she is. Once the rock/s are gone the true AFK sits and does nothing.
I don’t get why so many players whine that CCP should “fix” things there are obvious and relatively easy counters to.
Only conclusion I can come up with is - Eve players have gotten soft.
For lack of better place to post this. (forum is a mess i need a rocket science PhD to navigate these forums.)
How impossible would it be to allow a Command ship to store a barge / exhumer in it’s ship maintenance bay and when doing an activity of let’s say hmm idk off the top of my head i would say Mining.
To be able to activate the LiC of the Orca for example let’s just use the Orca… Activate the command bursts to give bonuses to other ships in the fleet right. and then boarding the barge / exhumer that you have available in your ship maintenance bay. And when you do so your command ship (Orca) stays with the LiC active retains it’s command bursts active, so you can now mine with your barge/exhumer while receiving your mining boosts. And only you would be able to board the Orca similar to how only YOU can scoop to cargo the MTU…
Right now activating the LiC prevents you from boarding your ship, As soon as you board your othership all modules from previous ship gets turned off , if they had drones out they will lose contact and stop working boarding it again you have to “reconnect to lost drones”. And i believe that anyone can board your ship if they have the skill to pilot it.
This is solo miners wet dream. Current system Force you to use multiple accounts to benefits from your boosts or if you just go with your barge / exhumer you just wish you had boosts and a bigger storage, In both case it’s a lose/lose vs someone paying a 2nd account and it’s a win/win.
