Wait. Hold on a second. Nobody ever loses a ship in a fleet ? How many players are really so dedicated to the alliance cause that the citadel ( or whatever ) being blown up is a huge ‘win’ despite them losing ( and as with so many corps , restocking ) several ships in the process ?
I mean, I have had battles where it really feels like the CEO doesn’t care how many ships I lose as long as the ‘objective’ is met. The point where you realise you are just cannon fodder is not a ‘win’ moment. You are basically fighting someone else’s battles and doing your best for something…some notion of ‘win’…to arrive.
You are not wrong, you took a lacuna in my post and explored it, it kinda fits my original idea, I missed the punch line: “EVE is about asset destruction”.
PvP is semantically correct, I’m not one to discuss semantics, I respect them, but it seems fruitless to engage in such discussions.
I didn’t mean losing in the literal sense, but it fits with asset destruction, it represents EVE very well.
I’m not complaining, I’m explaining the situation. If you get what you want the way you want the game you know will disappear.
I’m not even playing, I’m just saying random stuff. If you don’t believe me just go for it and gl with that.
It’s not really to hard to rationalize, if everybody decides to just hunt and destroy, the game will change, I’m not saying it will die or anything, but it will change. You may not like the end result.
@Gloria_Exercitus tell me more about how your ships got used as cannon fodder for a cit kill. I don’t fly in null. It’s cool to hear real stories from people in fleet. I’ve done some bashing but it was pretty much expected to gtfo before you die. ■■■■ happens… But that’s what is expected.
Well, up to a point one should be prepared to lose ships in a fleet battle. But I do recall several incidents where it was more like the charge of the Light Brigade and ‘spare’ ships had even been brought in beforehand. I do not like this sort of planned carnage, where its already been decided that I ‘should’ lose a dozen ships if necessary.
Sure there is SRP, but I do recall one incident where we tried to capture a wormhole and it was clearly futile from the start…as 70% of our fleet had left the wormhole and couldn’t ( or wouldn’t ) get back. I lost ship after ship pointlessly attacking a POS while the enemy had 3 times as many ships to defend it. I even lost a blinged out Vedmak…300m ISK or so…that someone ‘lent’ me. In the end, not only did we not evict the enemy from the wormhole, but both our own stations were destroyed. A complete waste of time. Cannon fodder.
( lol…just looked at the killboard for the above…3 Drekavacs and 2 Legions versus my one Vedmak. Very much the charge of the Light Brigade )
It’s too bad everything has to end in destruction. Being able to capture or disable enemy structures and ships would be an interesting dynamic, ie: boarding actions, towing disabled ships, etc.
That’s a pretty cool story thanks man. It helps me understand null and why they think in the way they do. It seems the objective of buildings is very important. For me they meant nothing. When you’re a mercenary you take pride in having nothing the enemy can strike. It used to be a foundation. I run an empire. But you cannot shoot one single bullet toward any castles.
I think all loot in PvP should be the reward. I think CCP should consider adding incentives to the play style in other forms such as trophies or whatever. I’m going to sleep fellas. Have a good one.
During the Finanar war, several years back, we destroyed over 150 Parabellum stations. Which was some of the most fun I’ve had in EVE. The downside is that the region remained desolate for years…at least nothing re-appeared on the scale Parabellum had it. Hmm…I must pop down there and see how the region is doing now.
Yes, it was March 2023. I was there in my capacity as a member of Wrecking Machine. And Blackflag was also there…their HQ was destroyed before ours. That war was epic…probably the biggest there’s been in highsec…well over 2,500 in the various systems for each battle.
Absolute Order was there for the main battles…and probably the most epic moment I’ve had in EVE was 10 of us holding the timer on the main Parabellum HQ while the AO fleet of 400 or so destroyed another structure nearby. Only 3 of the 10 on the main HQ station survived until the main fleet came over, and I was one of them. In fact I did not lose a single ship in the entire Finanar war.
The remaining 140 or so stations were destroyed over the next 2 weeks…mainly by Wrecking Machine and a few others as AO had largely gone home.
It just goes to show that exciting PvP mega battles can even happen in highsec.
You were on the Parabellum side ? I’ve forgotten who all their allies were. I do recall hearing that even after Parabellum lost all their stations in that region they were still massively wealthy.
My char was in AO, though only about half of Wrecking Machine are AO members. I actually haven’t fought in battle for AO for well over a year now…been too busy enjoying being Gloria, who was barely out of noob nappies when the Finanar war occurred, yet who I’ve now trained and skilled to be my highest SP and most skilled char.
It’s really nice to know these things about you broski. I don’t really like talking about myself. I am The Kernite Project and that’s all that matters while I try to peacefully show the facts about hisec.

I am The Kernite Project and that’s all that matters while I try to peacefully show the facts about hisec… I can’t edit so I am going to have to change characters. This is the first time I’ve taken the form seriously for more than a few days so let me find the Mina account…
Did you see how editing was my problem in those last posts? That’s why I had to switch accounts along with bad vision lol. I have a lot so I don’t know which one has what characters… Anyway I am Kernite.
Let me tell you a little story about that war. I was given the little task of trying to get on video some of the highlights of high sec for possible footage that could be used in a CCP promotional video about high sec. Because high SEC was one of the things they could have talked about. You might have noticed there were some streamers involved in that war. This is why. CCP then basically didn’t mention anything about the war or hisec in the upcoming events that happened in game. Slap in the face blah blah blah. It’s not easy when you’re concered with winning to have footage. The good thing is a lot of it is on video but it didn’t amount to much. I dropped out of the war once the race was over on KB and didn’t want to take part in the building clearing portion. I got to give credit where it’s due also. The best character in that entire war was the CEO of parabellum. He did a fantastic job of representing his side of that war to the public. I want to thank him deeply for his willingness to interact on those streams. That was an epic moment for high sec and I’ll respect him for it.
