In sandbox MMOs, content fatigue and asset inflation gradually reduce player activity. To enrich long-term gameplay and improve player retention, I sincerely provide three practical suggestions for PVP content updates:
1. Add team ranked PVP mode
Inspired by the official Alliance Tournament (AT) rules, please launch an in-game team ranked queue. This allows ordinary players to practice formal AT-style combat, enrich mass PVP content, and attract more players to experience core EVE PVP gameplay.
2. Add solo ranked 1v1 PVP mode
Create a universal solo 1v1 ranked system available anywhere in space. Set independent brackets for frigate, cruiser, battlecruiser, and battleship tiers, with reasonable fitting restrictions, public leaderboards, and small ranking rewards. This will activate casual PVP content and bring back veteran players.
3. Add AI opponent training for new players
New pilots can start solo ranked matches against AI enemies. After reaching a stable rank, matches will switch to real player opponents. This lowers the learning curve for EVE’s complex PVP mechanics and greatly increases new player stickiness.
This in particular I strongly support. I believe it would strongly help newbie retention by demystifying PvP and more complex combat mechanics, but also be a nice addition for old players who might want to just have a quick fight without committing to hunting down an opponent, which we all know can be very time consuming.
If any of that were on the patch notes and maybe connected to highsec corps… id start a corp for it. Excellent ideas to toss at FC and hope they get distracted from wtfe they are currently fiddling with in null. Work on Small Gang, not big blob. Work on player driven… not NPC slop. Ship vs ship, not ship vs building. Self-fitted ships, not doctrines. This OP has just given excellent suggestions which match everything we want and need. Maybe toss in some yearly fight the GM for his dogtags event.
This should already exist for bog standard PvP. It is quite ridiculous that in a PvP game one has to look to third party apps to provide such info. What is the frikin point of playing a PvP game if nobody knows your status ? It is absurd when you get people who argue ‘killboard doesn’t matter’. If that doesn’t matter in a PvP game…then what does ? Why go to all the bother of skilling up and getting good…if nobody knows you have done so ?
Top tier excuses when you are simply bad at the game.
Its just a game.
I have a life and that guy doesnt.
Killboard doesnt matter.
He was obviously haxx.
They only won because they used the meta…
This isnt fair.
These guys only camp gates and stations for weak targets.
They only take fights they know they can win.
Can we all just get a log in ribbon every day instead?
Seriously… i would point out that my preferred pvp style is quality over quantity and in eve you do have to choose so id hope any of these ideas might add that. Maybe as simple as Gang vs Solo style on Zkill. Solo is the mark of a man if you ask me. I have alts with 100% k/d and we all knows thems just fleet alts. Some people care soo much about KBS they fly to every single cit pop for ten years just to say they were there and in reality is a noob frig taking one shot.
These options could be good for the game, provided that they were happening in a physical location in the universe where you travel to to fight.
This way these arenas would enrich the open world gameplay of EVE, instead of undermining it by drawing players away into a queue-based parallel instanced game which reduces the activity and interaction in the main universe.
I’m familiar with lobby-based PvP games and would not like EVE to turn into such a game at the cost of it’s current open world gameplay.
There’s external killboards for those who like to wave an epeen.
I dunno, ranking in PvP games always seems whack to me, and EvE is no exception. No killboard for EvE has ever managed it well, mostly because PvP skill isn’t meaningfully reduceable to a single metric.
I play MWO as well, and they have an in game ranking system, but it essentially tracks how many matches you play, with more matches == higher rank.
That’s the issue, a ranking system will always be biased to quantity, so any killboard is pretty much measuring time spent PvPing.
I’m not concerned with ranking. I’d like something more akin to be able to hover cursor over the pilot and see number of kills, losses, a general ‘dangerous’ or otherwise category…which is far more useful than whether a person ranks #1 or #101,853. It is the information, rather than the epeen waving, that is important.
Honestly, allowing third-party tools to ping the server is a huge mistake; we need real products made by the company itself. Instead of carefully managing add-ons, CCP opened the floodgates and walked away, giving specific players an advantage with real server information. Management is too busy emailing cheap PLEX to alliances and driving up sales or working on games that arent so confusing. Rampant inflation and alternative forms of currency to mask it are clear signs of systemic failure. Creating fake NPC market buy orders while claiming this is a player-driven game makes no sense in both areas.
Once I provoked Aiko explaining a jungle cannot be made only from predators.
Now I’m going to show you what always slips your grasp:
Losing. It sucks. And you are so used to winning you think other people are having fun, they are not, otherwise they would be engaging.
There’s no point doing PvP when you know you going to lose, that’s why NS is fun, you go in a fleet and you experiment winning for once.
There’s no room in this game for surprises, all the “game changing” modules are normalized. WHY? I honestly dunno, maybe because the winners don’t want to be surprised.
Imagine failing to bait that Battleship because WEB / Scram for a Battleship is not 10km.
Sorry to be so blunt, you don’t like pvp, you like to win, just like everybody. There are lots of pvp games, including pvp events that are sponsored for good money.
