Ganking awareness

Woah, calm down the personal attacks miner.

No. It sounds like what goes on in a game forum full of NPCs that have to turn every single thread into an argument.

Nice try, though.

Mr Epeen :sunglasses:

‘NPCs’ is quite hilarious coming from someone for whom there is zero evidence they have ever undocked.

But the game has to tell them. Or it doesn’t count

They could make a cool video like a documentary following the freighter pilot and following the gank fleet .

David Attenborough type Voice over following the freighter loading undocking and being scanned then shown him setting autopilot and watching Netflix

Into the gankers, zoom in on their scout and his scanning ship finding a nice juicy target.

Cut to gankers in the jerk circle running off to man theirs ships, sitting on terther ready to go . Show tackler getting ready and so on most of us now the rest.

End with showing the deep space transport being loaded with loot for easy getaway and of course some tears

NPE should cover ganking from both sides and with the ‘new new NPE’, it’s clear the tools are there for CCP to make any kind of interactive mission.

It should explain damage types & tank modules to the player. It should blow the player up, make him fit into correct tank and go again.

It should guide a player into setting safety to red, gank something, explain concord, security status, system security, gateguns etc. and force them to return to green settings after.

You could do things like force them to use the ‘correct’ damage type for a certain fit, to make sure they understand the information given. All of this can be done instanced as alpha against NPCs.

Imo this would be not only fun but highly educational. Not only would it inform new players of the existence of highsec (suicide) mechanics and the need for further research, it would show it’s a viable and fun path.

I have been meaning to make a suggestion thread about a ganking related NPE ‘arc’ for a while. Yes you can argue all the information is out there, but let’s face it, new players (usually) want tutorials interactive while playing.

Reading up on these mechanics is probably not as fun as experiencing them. It’s not ground breaking if there were something practical to show the relation between cargo expanders and explosions.

Having any tutorial in the NPE that covers how to potentially avoid ganking is better than having none at all

I did the NPE very recently, as an Alpha. It seemed to me a vast improvement on previous versions, but also a bit bloated.

I think CCP wants to avoid presenting genuinely new players with a long drawn-out commitment in time and, let’s say, intellectual resources. If the tutorial is going to be helpful, it needs to strike the correct balance between relevance and comprehensibility.

If the incidence of suicide ganking is sufficiently high to warrant inclusion in the NPE as a dedicated and discrete topic, then I feel certain that CCP would devote to it that level of attention.

That the company does not do so, doesn’t cancel your concerns, Dchill. Rather, it demonstrates, in an admittedly oblique way, CCP’s considered opinion on the matter - and they, of course, have the data in support of their position.

It’s CCP’s game; you can suggest, but you cannot compel.

I read at least a few reviews for every new game I install. I also go to YouTube for actual gameplay examples. That’s not to say that there’s no place at all in-game for ganking advice, but its placement must be carefully considered.

I found that learning to be a predator protected me from being prey. Maybe you should try that?

Pretty sure this mechanic was removed almost a decade ago.

They need to be on the same grid as the gate, but you can still stop people short, and with proper grid stretching, that can still be 500km

It was not. Feel free to look up any number of recent video ls on how to bomb shuttles mid warp. The single greatest predator of Leopards in the game is 1 guy who bombs them midway between the Jita undock and perimeter.

CCP want you to get ganked. They want it so much they actively removed a module that actually gave a realistic chance of escaping a gank.

Target Spectrum Breaker.

It is not midway, it’s on the grid of the 4-4 station.

This module was really fleet cancer.

Why? I’m not sure I’m imagining how it would hurt people in a fleet together?

It’s still in warp though. It’s 280,000 km off the station. So if the argument is you have to be on the grid of something, then ok. But if the argument is you can’t smart bomb people with who are in warp without pulling them out of warp first, then you clearly can. It’s kind of a distinction without a difference to the leopard pilots who are in warp and think they are safe and then are immediately dead and podded.

It’s a distinction that others aren’t making though. You can be damaged while getting to warp speed as long as you are on the landing grid or the entrance grid. When someone says in the middle of warp, they mean when you are in between the aforementioned grids.
