The old Gnosis and Sunesis were fine. The old Gnosis wouldn’t be as good of a blaster boat as the Brutrix, wouldn’t have the lasers of a Harbinger, the missile capability of a Drake, the ability to active tank as well as the cyclone, but it was versatile with lots of slots. It was fine.
The Sunesis was also fine. It’s not like there were a bunch of Occator pilots complaining about competition from Sunesis ones. The Sunesis had the insta align but lower volumes than the proper haulers.
The ships are just given out annually at capsular day anyways. Unlike t1 ships, no one can flood the market with them. CCP should have just left the stats alone and let the market take care of things.
Alphas shouldn’t have access to an instant align hauler, even if that hauler has relatively little cargo space compared to an actual hauler. Sunesis needed a big nerf to its align time, and probably a decent-sized buff to its actual combat strength since it has never been used for that.
Gnosis seems fine as it is. SOCT ships should be very accessible, but never actually a good option to ships produced by players. Gnosis came much too close to that in several respects before.
Stupid amount of cargo space for a destroyer combined with a sub-2 second align and no skills required. Was only a matter of time before it got the nerf bat.
It was not. It took the top spot of kills and kill contributions every week for years, effectively taking away from all these other battlecruisers that were not nearly as versatile, which takes away massively from the economy as you get these ships for free. The Gnosis in particular was a huge issue for the game.
You could get the SOCT ships back to their original power level, but to do that you have to limit their usage time. No char over 7M SP or 6 months of age should be allowed to board these ships. With this restriction in place, these ships are only useful for newbs, can show them what powerlevel certain ship classes can have, and they are no longer top dogs on killboards.
The SoCT ships are both free and easily accessible ships and have a well defined role in that sense as newbie-friendly ships that perform well with low SP but don’t scale well.
I think it’s healthy for these ships to not be a competitive option for veteran players as this keeps their prices much more accessible for the intended users of these ships.
So no, we do not need the old versions of these ships back.
That. These ships were totally OP considered their pricetag and the fact that you need zero skills to board them (and still got full 25% weapon boni for everything). Smart people have said so for years…
You’re given, what, 5 ships? If 10,000 Omega players participated in Capsuleer Day, that is now 50,000 ships in circulation or on the market that weren’t built by players. That’s the problem.
