Gnosis PVE Armor Tank for Gallente alpha

Hi I am not sure if I fit Gnosis well for high sec PVE in Gallente space. I prefer armor tank. Please criticize my fit cuz I am new… The only module I can’t use yet is nano membrane II. I put both Microwarpdrive and Afterburner, don’t know if it’s a good idea to get rid of Statis Webifier.

Some comments.

I would suggest losing the afterburner and just going with the MWD. The Gnosis is a good ship (especially for new players), but one of its major flaws is that it is slow. Replace the AB with another cap module to get a bit closer to cap stable.

This speed and agility is also going to be impacted by those armor plates, and the Trimark Rigs will slow you down even more. That’s not the end of the world, but for some missions, you will probably start to go mad moving around to long gates or getting in range of some enemies. You might consider replacing the armor plates and the EAN with rat-specific armor hardeners that you can change for missions- this will increase your resistance to the damage dealt and make the ship a bit faster.

Hope that helps and good luck!

Thx a lot, right now I have that 800mm plate for about 49,000 ehp, 400 dps Max. I can turn on AB forever to travel at 270m/s, without AB or MWD I can only travel at 120m/s. Do you have any cap module to recommend in my mid slot? Also are my dps and ehp good enough for missions in level 2 and level 3? For Armor Hardener, is that Reactive Armor Hardner?

Hi

Sorry man but rails and blasters are no good for PvE. Well, they are not undoable, but if you wanan focus on PvE go drones / missiles. You will make things much harder on yourself if you stick with hybrids, and unnecessarily so. In the end you will have everything anyways, but it takes a really longtime. BTW missiles, drones and Projectile Turrets do not use any capacitor. This is a very big deal for PvE. Hybrids, lasers and Triglavian weapons use it.

If you want to try out different weapon systems and stuff and stay alpha, you should make seperate characters / accounts for it, then you don’t have to worry about training into wrong thing anyways. In fact, you should do that anyways, make 1 alpha for each weapon type.

Amarr, laserz + armor
Caldari - missiles + shield
Gallente Drones + armor
Minmatar - Projectile turrets - can go eitehr shield or armor on tank, armor will give you more open utility slots, shield will give you more open damage mods, I like HAMs + Armor (heavy assault missiles)

Here is a nice PvE beginner fit, change anything T2 that you cant equip for T1 compact version if available. Its armor + missiles. more like for Minnatar then Gallente unfortunately.

To make this into gallente, take out the missile ballistic controls in low slots, replace with Drone Damage Amlifiers, and whatever weapons you like. Take out the missile Guidance COmputers in mid slots, replace with 1x Drone Tracking Link with precision script, and 1x Drone Navigation Computer.

Then put whatever guns you like on it, but remember guns here are an afterthought, drones are your meat and potatoes.

Note it has 2x Large Capacitor Battery, its because new players often have trouble with capacitors. But these take up a lot of powergrid, if you don’t have enough powergrid, then change one of them to medium, or change it to a 2nd recharger instead of battery, but batteries are better then rechargers.

Now if you want to stick with the fit that you listed, take out the afterburner and stick a 2nd battery in it, biggest you can.

On bottom you don’t have a rep, its not good to fly armor buffer for PvE. For PvP its ok. Shield buffer is OK because you can make a passive regeneration fit, but you cant do that with armor, you will have to be docking up every few mobs that damage you and keep paying for repairs. When you get skilsl high enough to up your resistances, go to single Energized Adaptive membrane and put in a 3rd damage mod. Actually may have to do that now to put a repairer in.

For your rigs, the oens you have give you a lot of movement penalty. If you go armor, and have a repairer, go with armor repair rigs, 1x Duration and 2X amount, this will greatly improve your repairs and you won’t need the buffer so much.

Don’t worry about not being cap stable with the MWD on. Do not keep it on all the time, just use it like 1,2,3 cycles at a time, MWD plays different then AB like that, so your ship does not need to be perfectly stable with MWD. Also, don’t run both armor repairer + MWD at same time. Its one or the other. You can run both for liek a minute or so but no more, watch the timing, its part of learning the game and ships in general.

  1. Buffer armor tank is not a very good idea for PvE.
  2. why not use Large cap battery?

  1. swap EANMs for rat-specific resists for better tank and it’ll work.

Thx a lot for your help! I haven’t realized the importance of armor Repairers II. I will have to take out that 800mm plate. Do you think I will still need the Damage Control II in the low power slots?

A friend once told me this:

“Always fit a damage control until you’re good enough or experienced enough to know why not to.”

She wasn’t wrong-LOL

I will echo this sentiment and add to it:

As a newer player, you will want to “overtank” your ship a bit.

By this I mean; you will want to dedicate a fair portion of your ship’s modules to repair / resist a lot of incoming damage and have the ability to sustain your tank.
As you become more comfortable with things, begin to trade some of those tanking modules for ones that increase damage and damage application.

The reason for this is simple; you don’t know what you are doing and don’t know what to expect. And you need that comfortable margin to know where your ship’s limit is.

.

Of course… you could go the “ShahFluffers route” and PvP-fit all your ships… even your PvE ones.
You’ll quickly learn that lack of module micromanagement and tactics will lead to death.

But the benefit is that you’ll be more comfortable with stress and multitasking when you eventually step into PvP.

I think the OP’s fit has a few problems for PVE, but also lacks any focus on what they want to do for PVE.

Missions? Exploration? Combat sites/Ratting?
OP, what do you want to actually do with this ship?

Armour plate and trimark armour pump rigs for PVE with no armour repair ability? No, don’t do that. Those all add mass and slow your ship down. Replace the armour plate with an armour repairer. Replace one rig with either an Auxiliary Nano Pump (armour repairer will repair more HP per cycle) or a Nanobot Accelerator (armour repairer has a faster cycle time). The other rig slots could be used for damage resistance rigs.

If you are not doing missions that have multiple rooms, you can drop the microwarp drive. Replace it with a second tracking computer and maybe a range script. My personal opinion on drone nav computers is that they aren’t really needed unless you are using heavy drones. The drone nav comp will help light and medium drones but I’ve used drones a lot and I honestly don’t think the nav comp helps light and medium drones all that much, at least for the way I use light and medium drones in PVE.

If you want to do exploration, you’ll need a mid slot for a data or relic analyser, plus for scanning down exploration sites you’ll need a high slot for a probe launcher so you could drop the drone link aug as well.

Combat sites are really a form a ratting, just blow up rat ships for their bounties and collect loot from the wrecks, and combat sites don’t need scanning gear to find them. A salvager module or some salvage drones will help (salvage loot is needed to manufacture rigs), or use a mobile tractor unit to collect the wrecks and their loot for you (be aware that MTU’s can attract PVP players who will attack your MTU to provoke you into fighting them).

Combat sites can also trigger “escalation sites” which are much harder to complete but can drop some nice loot like rare blueprints, and it is possible to sell the location of an escalation site to another player. Only a small number of combat sites will trigger an escalation site. There is no way to know exactly which sites rigger escalations, it’s under the control of an RNG. Escalation sites only stay available for a few days, so if you do not run the escalation site or give someone else the coordinates to it within that time limit, the site will disappear.

I really do advise against the armour plate and trimark rigs for PVE. Any other changes depend on what specific PVE tasks you want to do.
