Hi everyone, i am a new EVE Online player, and at the same time I am conducting academic research related to the game for the writing of a university academic article. I would really appreciate your help. If you have a few minutes, please fill out my survey. It is just a simple Google Form, and you do not need to provide any personal data. All responses are anonymous, and the data will be used only in an aggregated and non-identifiable form for academic purposes. The questions are simple and mostly about your experience with EVE Online, for example how long you have been familiar with the game since creating your account. I need 150 responses for my research, so I would be very grateful for every single response. Every response is very valuable to me. Thank you! <3
What has made you pick this highly niche video game and community?
And what is the research about? What are you studying about the game/players exactly?
Really well made survey. Iāve enjoyed completing it. Good luck with your research o7
I completed it as well earlier today but i had to rush to a meeting afterwards.
I chose EVE Online because it has a very unusual player community and one of the most complex virtual economies in gaming. That makes it a great case for studying how communication, trust, and economic behavior are connected. ![]()
My research looks at how the publisherās official communication influences playersā engagement, economic decisions, and trust in the in game economy. I am especially studying how news, devblogs, announcements, and other communication channels shape player behavior, perceptions, and attitudes toward the gameās economy, including trading, spending, and other forms of economic activity. o-o
Thank you so much, I really appreciate it. Iām glad the survey was enjoyable, and your response genuinely helps my research a lot o7
Thank you, I really appreciate you taking the time to complete it, especially before a meeting. o7
block 6: virtual real economy, question 24 is not a valid question. you lump in legal valid transactions with violations to the TOS and EULA for buying stuff from players using real money. I do not want to answer this question at all, because i have bought subscriptions and plex, but i absolutely refuse to support any 3rd party sellers of anything.
i was reading that!
I understand your point, and I actually agree with it! I do not support any TOS or EULA violating transactions myself, but for the purposes of the research I still have to account for all forms of real money use connected to the game, because they are part of the broader economic reality surrounding it. Answering this question does not imply support for any particular practice, but simply indicates whether real money has been used within the gameās economic environment in any form. o-o
Anyway, good survey, I hope it helps you with your data samples and research!
I had a weird visual bug on my side and my message did not appear as a direct reply to your comment, so I deleted it and reposted it again :C
Thank you very much, I really appreciate it! Your response genuinely helps me both with the sample and with the research overall. o7
If possible, when youāre done and submitting your research, would you possibly share it here or another thread for it, so we can also more understand the situation from a purely data driven point?
Of course, Iād be glad to share it! Right now I only have 21 responses out of the 150 to 200 I need, but once I collect enough data, Iāll post here again to let everyone know that Iāve started the analysis. Later on, Iāll also share the data and the finished paper. If possible, Iād really appreciate it if you could ask other people you know to fill out the survey as well - the faster I reach the required number of responses, the faster Iāll be able to complete everything.
I have requested the lovely degenerates of mining chat to come <3
āāThe EVE Online Publisherāā ?? You do mean CCP by that, donāt you? It should be said as such. As itās more clear, and doesnāt create confusion. You keep using the term āpublisherā, and it really is weird.
You also should define ātoxic behaviorā in question #22.
#24: Have you ever used real money or exchanged valuables outside the game to influence your in-game economy? (Paying for a subscription, buying PLEX, trading with other players for real money, etc).
^^You canāt lump these things into one! Paying for a sub and buying PLEX are legitimate aspects of EVE Online, while RMT is not! And most everyone has paid for a sub, pretty sure 99% of long-term players have paid for a sub, so their answer will be āyesā, but it will give you no distinction on what that āyesā means. You need to separate out legitimate and illegitimate use of real money within the game context.
Not gonna move on from this question, and not gonna complete it, as this is not the right way to do it.
I think for this occasion it works since ccp is owned by pearl abyss?
