Hi all.
I was doing some daily scanning around Osmon and in a Data site,
Lesser Guristas Covert Research Data Site to be more exact.
3 Pirate Moas ( presumably ) - Guristas Watcher and 1 Guristas Lookout…
spawned 12km over my head and smoked me within
13 seconds of their spawn, engaging the moment I clicked on the warp out button.
whilst I was in the middle of warping accelerating th F. away… a combined volley hit me
and all I saw was my ship exploding as my pod was completing the warp…
My Heron was papaerfoil , I only had basically a T1 dmg control for my defence…
That means they had around 1.500 EHP to go through… and they did in one very fast shot…
To which the question… How much dmg do these guys??? Their resists are about 80% Omni in armor and structure but no shields…
Here I captured the moment, at about min 33:00. Would a navy Heron had a chance to get out alive??? Has anybody some info on their dmg output??? o7.
Looking back at the video, my Ship Shield/armor/structure didn’t show any signs of being hit…
The logs showed like they Hit but ZERO dmg??? So what killed me??? The Killmail says its been
them… but could it’ve been so fast that my ship instruments didn’t record nothing and the graphics transitioned straight to the pod UI??? Not even the Alarm sound had been triggered…
This also doesnt seems normal to me… could it be a bug that could need investigation???
It’s like a 5M loss, I recovered the bulk of the fit… I could open a ticket just to get some devs insight on what really happened… I mean they were bloody fast at smoking me…
if you know the name of the ships, the chance is high that you can find their stats on eve-ref or chrukers NPC database.
But tbh, you warped out way too slow. The NPCs were there several seconds. And of course you can fit a lot more tank, at the cost of agility and speed. What saves you in one situation, kills you in another.
The Covert sites have a timer, after which defense NPC appear and the cans explode. The NPC are extremely strong for being cruisers and the containers deal 5k omni damage per explosion. A Heron insta dies to either. Ideally, you never stay long enough for either to happen.
Yeah, I know I don’t have to even try enter some sites in anything less than 7-8K EHP scan ship to even have a chance to get out alive… but this is new to me… It was a normal DATA site in theory… A Lesser Guristas Research DATA site but it didn’t smell of danger… my alignment is 2,7 sec normally and my reaction was too slow, but I didnt really think guys so tuff could appear in a site like this, next time I’d be faster than a blink of an eye, and make sure to deactivate the AB at each can scan beginning… if those were 5 normal guristas frigates like those seen in asteroids belts, my T2 rockets would have took well care of them before they could so any harm to my structure… these guys could have killed a Stratios…
My killmail says
Ghost Sites Guristas Pirate Watcher
Already searched but couldn’t find anything.
Except this one here that reports no dmg info…
There were two Watchers, one Wander, and one lookout. All cruisers.
There is a Moa-like in games.chruker that looks similar. Hybrid turrets, asteroids pirate cruiser that comes near the description, and annotates 220 Th-Kin dmg/s, that mean a single volley could do well over 2K-2.5K dmg. X4 ships means 8K-10K dmg.. Quite a punch… If your alignment is over their rate of fire than that can double also… anyway even if they did 300dmg per volley I’d be dead in a basic T1 Heron…
If they had mixed missiles and Hybrids I’d probably be alive…
Ah, I found one…
And I also found the one that killed me with the final blow… 151 thermal/sec…
The strange thing it’s missiles… It was only 12km apart tho… idk it seems strange anyway…
the volley dmg could have insta-killed me, I have no doubts about that…
But now there’s a chance now to hypotesize a 7-8K scan ship would have probably survived the volley, unless there was a scrammer amongst them… or your alignment time surpassed the 6 sec reload… (e.g. MWD on…)
The log displayed zero dmg, and visually all I saw was a red laser first, like a painter, and then the missiles… the kill notification appeared immediately even before the painter laser appeared on screen… I re-watched everything at 0.25 speed bc I could understanf what hit me…
These are special sites where if you fail the hack the can explodes and kills you, and after a hidden timer that randomly varies between about 1-3 minutes NPCs will warp into the site, destroy the cans and shoot you.
There’s two ways to do them. One is in a regular hacking ship, preferably a covert ops because the hacks are very difficult, and just be very quick with your hacks. It’s possible to hack all the cans if you have max skills and are good at the minigame – if not, you should cargo scan the cans and pick the highest value one.
The other way is to use a very tanky ship. Some T3 cruisers and the Stratios and the Nestor are able to tank this site with specialized fits. Eve University has more information: Ghost Sites - EVE University Wiki
People have probably already answered, but that is a special site. If you fail the hack, the can will explode and kill you. If you take too long, the rats will shoot the cans, which will kill you.
Eve Uni article that goes in much more detail: Ghost Sites - EVE University Wiki
This is how I do them in a Heron.
I bring a cargo scanner, scan all cans to find the best one. In HiSec I may try to go for 3.
Important: If about to fail the hack or rats spawned while I am hacking, I will jettison my loot, so I can comeback to grab it. Can explosion don’t destroy jettison. Make sure to bookmark it as to not lose it
The trick with these sites is to quickly scan the 4 containers and only hack 1 with the highest value items, or at most 2, and then GTFO.
Typically, there is no reason to tank anything here (assuming you do not fail the hack). There are no additional rewards or escalations or some-such from staying longer than the 1 jackpot can.
The other problem here is that the can explodes if you fail the hack. By trying to warp off you autofail the hack causing it to kill you if the rats didn’t do that already.
