0.1% at 10 accounts. I wonder where I would stand with over 100.
Data is at lest 4 years old. Since then numbers definitely went up
Itās just a guess.
On one hand, skill farming is practiced increasing the ease of having multiple accounts, on the other hand, input broadcasting is prohibited making the simultaneous use of accounts more tedious.
Graph shows accounts per player. Not how many you multibox. And even with that in mind. In last 4-5 years, there was enough dumb changes that encouraged people to create big fleets of alts.
Right now, probably most players that play eve for longer than few months, have more than one account sitting somewhere. Even unused (CCPlease, when we will able to remove accounts again?).
Ultimately, with regard to the frequency of multiboxing, we are all guessing. Why do you say itās more common now?
Because I play for long enough to see how playerbase behavior/attitude has changed over time
IMO, it is not the number it is the active players . it can be 1M accounts but 100k active .
Iād agree with the above, multi-boxing has pretty much become the norm.
Also, Iād disagree with the botting estimate above, it is probably considerably lower - most of what you will see are afk multi-boxing crab accounts -> 2-8 accounts is not uncommon in nullsec.
It is not just a multiboxing issue. A huge number of players are logged in, but not playing the game. All those people in Jita are not necessarily busy at their keyboard doing stuff.
yeah but when a game claims # of players and you find out 1/3 of those are just accounts thats offline.
at one point years ago CCP said we had something like 300k sub accounts but Magically āspread across the timezonesā.
im still upset over the big blog thay released a month after alphas where they were bragging how limiting alphas to 1 account what such a success that they were going to do it to omega because of balance, 2-3 months later that whole area of the blog was deleted lol
Agreed, I sometimes forget that I tend to have personal definitions that donāt agree with the norms. For me personally, I include AFK multi-boxing crab accounts in my ābotsā numbers, because I consider the activity to be be effectively the same in terms of game results as botting, even though no actual bot program is needed.
So feel free to shift 2,100 accounts from the Bot category into +700 for āPlayers running altsā and +1400 for āalts run by multi-boxersā.
I donāt intend for those numbers to be in any way accurate as numbers, they are just there to indicate the relative scale of what my personal experiences with EVE has led me to expect:
- 50% of accounts online are single players on a single account (even though they may own multiple accounts, they only play one at a time) - many of whom are completely/mostly AFK.
- 30% of accounts online are multi-boxers / alts.
- 20% of accounts are bots or players who are engaging in bot-like gameplay.
Iād guess that multiboxers make up a smaller part of the total playerbase nowadays considering the influx of alpha players in game. The total number of multiboxers are probably about the same as it have been for the last couple of years.
So you canāt get your definitions right and you post guesses. Exactly how much value should we put on your āfindingsā?
as far as i know most people donāt have alts
Donāt guess. You are very very wrong. I multi box 4 most of the time and some times 8. There are many players who do this all over hs, low and null. Go look at some of the ice belts in hs, 12 man boxers, same or worse in null sec. I have seen 12 man multi boxing rorqās, gank fleets in many cases is 1 person boxing up to 20 alts.
Thereās a 20-box guy mining ice in Teonusude every day. Heās a pain in the butt 'cause he used a glossary of Roman names with over a half-dozen beginning with A eating up the local roster. Many wish his untimely demise. Of course, heās there to HOG the ice belt. The issue then arose, āIf thereās a problem with it, YOU should run twenty toons, too!ā
Have we really gone so far off the rails that someone elseās greed is now sufficient cause to become greedy yourself? Iād say, āGod help us,ā but if this is true no help is coming from that direction; only retribution.
And with just 10 of similar āplayersā we already have +200 in online pool.
As long as developers will continue to make this type of gameplay profitable, nothing will change.
