How to Retain Players in EVE

How to retain players? Dont update the game unless you have something substantial to update. Take for example the patch today.

Its completely uninspiring.

They could add a Tech II reactive armor hardener, or anything similarly simple with substance, right?

But they dont because they arent smart apparantly

There was supposed to be a high-sec ore/mineral update. Guess it didn’t make it…

The biggest reason they can’t retain players is because EVE isn’t WoW with spaceships, people don’t like loss and they can’t handle having to read a LOT of information

The average gamer these days needs simple things that are easy to understand like “number go up good”, they need levels that mean they can just grind and beat anything

This is not EVE and it never will be, niche game has a niche audience and eventually it will have burned through that small number of players and will eventually die, but that is just normal and doesn’t mean the game failed, if your niche is 100k and 90k of those people enjoyed the game then thats still a win even if it means once those 100k people have played it the game dies, you satisfied your audience

So you don’t want them to fix bugs?

They are going to push an update when they have something to update, those little patches aren’t driving players away they complete in like 30 seconds

You are wrong 500k accounts loved to pay for that.

I vote none of the above. I said this before elsewhere in the forum. Unless a player finds something they want to achieve in less than the first hour of game play, they won’t stick around. Players need goals and it is up to the player to set their own goals. The user interface at the start is nightmare fuel. All those opened, transparent, and cluttered windows makes the game look more complicated than it is to play. I don’t run with much more than 3 windows open.

@Cypherous I don’t recall spaceships in WoW but D&D is another story; enjoy and be educated.

Have fun!

Where did i say WoW had spaceships? so not really a case of be educated and more a case of try reading?

Right, but those levels don’t mean much when they can be countered, its not just a case of “my level 50 battleship cannot lose to anything lower level” like you would end up with in a traditional level based game where most things are essentially stat checks

Where is this going exactly…?

i was kinda sarcastic there

You should have read his post before you replied to it.

If you manage to get 100M SP and 25B ISK in wallet you become like Cypherous i think.

This protection also extends to systems in which ‘Career Agents’ are located and as well as to systems associated with The Blood Stained Stars - Sisters of EVE Epic Arc.

  • Tricking new players into situations where you or others may open fire on them freely

LOL. I was baited into PVP in my newbie days in a Career agent system at the entrance of the academy station. CCP doesn’t protect you from anything. Stop with this nonsense.

They do if you report it to them, they aren’t going to actively have GM’s cloaked in every possible griefing system to see whats going on and just automatically protect you

New Players doesn’t know about reporting. They don’t even know how HigSec works. They are still in the process of learning.

That would be interesting

They are opted in to the rookie chat by default, in the process of asking what happened any one of the ISD’s in there will direct them to it or fill out a report on their behalf
