I love the Avalanche for HS travel

This ship is slow, but it’s better than any of the faction freighters.

It is the only ship I know of that has enough capacitor and CPU to fit and run a Large Shield Booster. It’s completely cap stable. Not even the Orca can do that and it needs a lot of cap to run all of its modules. The Bowhead lacks the CPU so it can’t even fit one.

As for cargo, the Avalanche carries more than a Jump Freighter and has up to a 3 million m3 infrastructure hold that carries so much more than it probably should.

If you need the booster, you’ve already failed as a hauler.

I’ve never needed it. My freighters and hauler have never been attacked. Ever. It’s just such a fun module. Ive been through Uedama so many times in so many ships.

Why would you use a large shield booster though on an Avalanche?

You’d get much more EHP out of other options, like additional shield resistances.

Why would you even care though? How long is an engagement going to last? 20 seconds? 50?

As long as your capacitor lasts long enough that your resistances aren’t turned off during the fight you’ll be fine.

I’d hope so.

Jump Freighters have much smaller cargoholds than regular freighters and the Avalanche is a specialized freighter with a much larger specialized cargo hold.

Personally I’ve never seen the need to fly an Avalanche yet. It’s slow, big, expensive and carries much more than I’d ever want to carry.

The Torrent is a fantastic hauler if I’ve got large amounts of infrastructure goods and I have not yet seen a reason to scale up. Usually instead I scale down in size as the Deluge is a fair bit faster and safer. Or move my stuff in a Jump Freighter if I’ve got a large load that needs moving a bit faster than multiple trips in a Deluge/Torrent.

It was done for fun because any and every time I would mention a high tank on a freighter, someone would respond with, “You know a breacher pod doesn’t care about resistances.” Without fail. Every single time. Even though no one in high sec ever uses breacher pods. So I thought it would be fun to add a booster so that I could respond saying that I have a rep installed.

The booster replaced the capital flex hardener I used to have installed. It still has great resistances and high EHP.

People have used breacher pods in high sec to gank freighters before.

But now that they’ve got a massive duration and top dps nerf it’s going to take many more Cenotaphs to kill freighters like before so I doubt we’ll see it again.

Very true.

As for cargo, the 200,000 m3 normal space is huge for a specialized freighter. You’re right about the infrastructure hold being overly big, but with the keepstar size as well as fiel and fit, it was needed, but perhaps they went a bit overboard.

The speed and cost is equal to a Bowhead and only slightly more expensive than an Orca. It’s nothing compared to the cost of a Jump Freighter though.

I use mine to haul around the 4m Heavy Water I bought some time ago.

Honestly impossible to find a single angle from which an LSB, specifically, makes sense. Even if you’re adamant that the booster should be on there at all (it shouldn’t), why a large? Why not an XLASB?

It won’t fit an XL. Just saying. CCP has decreed. As for why I fit it, that’s been answered.

Yes it will. Just saying.

I’ll try it just for fun then. I mean it already has a substantial tank.
