I don’t have a problem with gankers. I sometimes sit cloaked @ 50km off their gate camps and watch them work. Yeah, I have covert ships, but my most recent career (there have been a few) has been trading/import/export which means for the big profit of a whooping 4M isk, you need to move at least a few thou m3 of goods 20+ jumps though at least 4-5 low sec areas. I’m beginning to feel the New Eden shipping tycoon dream fading.
Today’s loss was my most heartbreaking. Stratios | Bee Jeezus | Killmail | zKillboard I loved that ship. It had gotten me out of so many tackle attempts that I got lazy and underestimated the people I saw in local. I even noted to myself that there were only two gates and I should vector my approach, but I don’t know it would have mattered, the crew camping that gate had a warp bubble waiting for me and the gate was inside of it.
Oh well, that’s Eve, but now that I’ve wiped out about 3X the profit I’ve made so far as a trader, I think it’s time for a new Eve career - bully slayer!
I don’t have an issue with ganking, really, but it does seem like there isn’t any risk involved. A long time ago I would troll them and pick though their leftovers with an Astero after they were successful and had to warp back to their station with the first haul of loot. When they started warping back for another load of loot, I’d cloak up and warp off just to piss them off.
Is there any corp or group that actively hunts ganking squads? Asking for a friend.
This isn’t a gank, you rushed headlong into a nullsec gatecamp without taking due diligence. Next time warp to a celestial within dscan range of the gate so you can check whether it’s safe before you make the final warp, or use an interdiction nullifier.
100% I knew to do all of that and failed to do it mostly because I was feeling invulnerable cloaked up and also, the life of a space trucker is boring y’all. If it weren’t for the thrill and challenge of getting through gate gankers there wouldn’t being anything fun about it at all.
6-7 as the kids these days say. When you lose a 300M isk ship, you hardly care about terminology nuance. Warp bubble pirating (is that term… nope; still don’t care) just seems lazy, but maybe I’m wrong. Maybe I should give that a go in my second decade of capsuleer.
I think I really just need a crew. I’ve been a loner in new eden (the other member of my corp is a clone) because I’m a nerd loner in life and maybe it’s time to be a part of something bigger. IDK. Six Seven. Someone just recruit me already!
You can easily be uncloaked well before the gate by trash ( deliberately ) left there.
If you’re on a regular route…here’s what you ought to do. Create bookmarks just over 150km from each gate. You warp to the bookmark, and you can then directly see what is there…without anyone seeing you. As you are more than 150km from the gate, you can then warp directly to it.
In this case I see a strange Stratios fit with mixed unbonused guns, an inefficient hull repair module that for good reason almost nobody uses, an armor repair rig on a ship that at most had shield hardeners as defence and was fully equipped with cargo-expanders to slow down your ship to a crawl and made decloaking by the Heretic easy, if you didn’t already land on a decloak can in the bubble.
Fit aside, the Stratios itself looks lovely, but if you need a covops hauler have you considered using a Blockade Runner to haul such amounts of drones for profit?
Not only does a BR have more cargo space by default, it also can use a nullifier to ignore the bubble that caught you.
As for payback, I expect every PvP-oriented group in the game can be asked to deal with some nearby gate campers.
