A system that has been fundamentally broken by citadels anyways. Idk, I probably have more radical ideas about what the optimal FW rules and design should be than most others.

especially the tethering stuff

Or the fact that they can point web and neut and send drones… with no one else in space, literally an I win button and content denial anywhere close to one.

Formatically, I like citadels in general, but the way they broke the one thing that makes system control important in FW is the problem.

In my mind, I’d keep normal NPC stations for neutrals only and destructible NPC citadel FOBs for the militias but there’s probably something I’m overlooking that I havent noticed and again, its a somewhat radical departure from most people’s opinions.

Would love for low sec market places to be a thing, would give people a hard core reason to fight tooth and nail for the main system.

Having to go to jita all the time when I have -8 standings with them is terrible as a gallente fw dude.

No point buying ■■■■ in low :confused: as there is no good mechanics for it and you will not find everything you need in 1 station.

And anyone trying to sell anything in low will go broke from a combo of no one buying it and tax’s. Should just say 0 tax’s in low sec, as its the lawless land with no official npcs policing it.

However, the main issue I have with the cited Reddit post is the notion that the best way to improve FW Lowsec is to import things from Nullsec. I would argue that if people wanted to play with Nullsec mechanics, they would move to Nullsec. I would also argue that if people wanted to change the mechanics of FW Lowsec, they would talk to the people who actively play in FW Lowsec, instead of lending their ear to an inactive player from Nullsec. I’m not trying to discriminate against former players or null players, but if Richard and Maurice McDonald came back from the dead, and decided that what the Aboriginal population of Australia really needed was a fast food chain restaurant on top of Uluru Rock, the locals would be somewhat upset with that, and understandably so.

In fairness, even in highsec the NPC navies don’t really pose a threat. The threat comes from the players who specialise in holding enemy players down with points, scrams and webs, for those NPCs to do the deed. That said, I do understand your point, but I did want to meet that Arde fellow somewhere in the middle. Maybe they ought to roam around the system instead, rather than idling on the gates specifically. They have done a lot of interesting things with Fleet AI for the trigvasions.

Having never mined outside of that one event where they wanted help constructing stargates, I’ll take your word for it when you say NPC miners are an issue, and naturally where possible this should be left to the players. I think the framework for this already exists in the lesser-known Resource Wars content, and could be readily implemented if it were rolled into FW.

FW already has PVE missions, which are far more lucrative than they deserve to be, and far safer than they deserve to be, so I’d disagree on that.

It does sting a little when I’m the only one deplexing a staging system during the EUTZ and I get a whopping 143 LP for holding the line and don’t get any pirates to shoot as compensation. I’d definitely agree there.

I agree that FW agent missions are a blight upon society and that both they and the Jackdaw bots that do them should be ended.

The entire Tier system is already slated for being removed, as per CCP’s fanfest presentation. Good riddance.

In fairness we’re not psychopaths. We’re just people who decided to fight over backwater systems on behalf of NPC factions for a variety of reasons. Some people do it out of patriotism, some people do it for fun, some people do it for profit. Not really my place to judge what motivates people.

If I have to base my best day on the number of people passionately cheering on voice chat, then it must have been the destruction of that Azbel in Pochven, where the EDENCOM-aligned players kamikaze’d a Typhoon fleet into the structure in spite of it being defended by hundreds of people:

Fitting knowledge related to a single hull does not translate into knowledge about FW.

As it stands it’s reversed, with PVE missions rewarding more LP than taking or defending systems. You know, the thing where people actually have to fight other people to get ahead.

That is difficult to answer because from an in-character perspective the answer would be “our navy is not obliged to tell foreigners anything”. From a purely out-of-character perspective, I would also like to know why the State and the Fed have such a boner over the system.

In contrast to popular belief, logistics operations do occur in lowsec. I know this since I am one of the people who executes them. Since I’m Calmil, my friends tend to have problems with Sec Status, moreso than NPC Standings, but the end result is the same. So they ask me to get them a DST full of this fit or that fit, and I’ll haul em in. Athounon was a perfect example of that since I haven’t seen people move that amount of war materiel that energetically since the days of the Red Ball Express in 1944. I estimate that I alone moved in approximately 250 frigates and assault frigates for myself and others to use. So my advice would be to either get yourself a friend with a deep space transport, or to make an alt that flies one. Also you should totally watch the movie Lord of War starring Nicholas Cage several times to set the mood.

Doing it on a Neutral alt is even more fun because you now have to survive attack attempts from both your enemies and your friends.

That is exactly the problem :confused: avoiding combat with another player is more rewarding which is a mechanical problem fw has that only CCP can solve.

And about Arde’s response as a whole, to see low sec and fw thriving and busy as some type of active civilization sounds absolutely amazing.

How does rewarding plexing certain systems stop them plexing others?

Agreed, alliances will have their own strategies that might not align with what is the highest reward’s that npc’s set. As an example breaking passed the front line into a pipe and cutting off the supply lines then letting the rest of the players slowly capture everything behind.

When the new system is released, oplexing in rearline systems will have a reduced % effect, and a reduced payout. This, in combination with faction tiers being removed, will make Frontline systems the most lucrative ones, and there bots would have to compete with Humans in order to close those sites. Which, as anyone who’s ever seen how bots act can tell you, isn’t going to end well for them.

Right, but I’d rather have the enemy managing that via a sound strategic choice, than watch the warzone flip between blue and green on the whims of a horde of scripted Tristans.

Great topic, OP, I think now is a great time to be having well thought out discussions about the future of FW. I was a little bit concerned when I saw CCP Swift respond to Arde that he appreciated the sentiment that the FW zone should feel more like nullsec. I’m not a FW player, but I’m an independant PvPer that has frequently gone to the FW zone to find content over the years.

I’ll share my reddit comment here, because reddit has the attention span of a gerbil and this discussion is already ancient history there:

Hey Swift, just one thing.

Nobody wants FW to have a similar feel to nullsec. Players that want the nullsec experience already have abundant opportunities for that…in nullsec.

I’m not saying that having players doing a variety of different activities is a bad thing, per se, depending on what that looks like. But remember that this is supposed to be the front lines of a war between the largest factions in the game.

Most of nullsec, by contrast, is firmly behind the battle lines most of the time - most people spend their day krabbing peacefully in the most quiet, safe area of the game, only PvPing in large scale strategic formations. Nullsec is for players who want that sense of security that a firmly entrenched position provides. To look to nullsec as a model for improving FW would be sheer idiocy.

The FW revamp should be PvP focused, and it should focus on making small scale PvP profitable above all else. In the heyday of FW, that was the hook for many players, that they could make loads of isk without needing to PVE much or at all.

I do dearly hope that the FW revamp goes well. EVE is really missing a vital component these days - a proper pipeline for newbies to be initiated into solo and small gang PvP. Historically, when I was approached by newbies interested in PvP, I could give them a wide selection of advice on how to get started. Ninja salvaging, RvB, can flipping, or FW were all viable and fun pipelines for developing clueless noobs into killers. Nowadays only FW is left, but I almost cringe when I advise new people to go there, because the population in the warzone (and hence the quality of PvP) is so small and lacking in diversity.

You should not look at this challenge as “how do we make the warzone feel more like nullsec, a PVE zone with an homogeneous population of krabs who occasionally get in big organized battles over structures”. You should look at it as “how do we get buttloads of beginner/intermediate players in this area trying to kill one another’s ships (emphatically not structures) alone or in small groups, while getting paid well for it.”

What CCP Swift and CCP Rattati have been very interested in doing to revitalize the game is removing highsec and merging it with low to form one cohesive area system without police or interference. Most players have voted for and want this.

Nullsec and CSM folks can stay there for the content they like.

I’m not rejecting the idea outright, but what about new players? I know some people stay in HS all their lives but in principle, was it not intended for people who are new to get their feet wet without being deleted outright?
