I think you might have a good idea. It would make Eve a little more immersive. It has good potential for being useful.
I support this idĆ©. Itās good for roleplay aspects! For example reports written going back and forth from stations with sensetive information that could be a hot target for others who might wish to get that information.
We already had that. It created copious amounts of clutter and put stress on the database.
There is also a content moderation problem. Each time you allow users to share user generated text, you expose your system to real life spam, scams and highly illegal content. It would put stress on the moderation system of the game and customer support.
You can already spam unsolicited EveMails via ESI without the need to even run the client
https://developers.eveonline.com/api-explorer#/operations/PostCharactersCharacterIdMail
I guess, it just require creating āburn accountsā to mass spam 600 EveMails every 15 minutes with whatever content you want. Just like you can send profanities or threats via regular EveMail.
Until the spam account gets reported and permabanned.
ESI send EveMail endpoint doesnāt have profanity filters either. Iāve checked it just now on my two EVE characters.
Auto-filters exists, that could prevent such things if necessary, but I canāt see the point. Especially if you can post profanities in local - I am guessing you can, I didnāt tried ![]()
But whoever will do it, will risk getting banned. Especially if you could report those pages. The ownership will be obvious to CCP.
I canāt see how it would work any different from EveMails, or local chat, especially that it could cost small amount of ISK to create those itemized pages and reward those ISK back upon cleaning them up. It could even be limited to how many pages you can create in a given time. With a CCP set hard limit or with a Skill limit.
And the present day database is more efficient than it used to be, it was explained by CCP Rattati in that āPLEX videoā I linked earlier

Itās not different from any other user generated content, but it is another vector that needs moderation, and that puts additional stress on the system and the customer support.
Oh.. and by the way, when we had this, literally no one trusted these since 99% of them were pure scam. There was also brain damaging amount of trade hub local chat and contract spam with these included. The game is much better without them.
What are you writing about exactly? iāve heard of bookmarks as items with some character limit allowing for communication. others mentioned it already here. Is it what you refer to as well?
Why do you think, a fee+refund system for creating+trashing those information items along with creation limit wonāt work as spam limitation?
Would you spam those if you had to pay, even a small amount, for their creation, knowing that anyone who finds it can just trash it and āhave your ISKā, while completely ignoring the content?
Sure, it seems like it would probably have a niche use by RP aficionados only, who would just accept the fee in exchange for ability to engage with the in-game world more deeply.
I donāt insist it should be a top priority, especially if it would require a lot of dev work. But would be nice for it to make it to the backlog nevertheless ![]()
The feature existed more than 10 years ago. Today, itās replaced by online bookmarks folders controlled by access lists - a much more robust and useful feature.
You really think even a 1 mil ISK price would limit the spam? I donāt think so.
We have Discord for that now.
Iām sorry, but it wonāt. You are asking for the return of a feature that was removed from the game a long time ago for multiple reasons and no one misses it or the problems and annoyances it created. Parts of what you are asking for, namely bookmark sharing, is now replaced with a much better system. There is hardly any chance that CCP will even consider rolling it back and re-introducing long gone problems.
Iāve just found it⦠it was 6 years ago after all: https://www.eveonline.com/news/view/shareable-bookmarks-alliance-bookmarks-and-more
