It isn’t fair in real life, and it isn’t fair in EVE. No commander in RL takes a look at the enemy and says “Well, they only have 20 guys and pistols, so that’s all we can use as well”. No, you come at them with 200 guys and steamroll them…
Do you think this might be the reason behind those gates being damaged back in April? Maybe they will open Exordium and shutdown some access to Jita? Maybe I am reading more into it and it is just flavor content.
Fly Safe o7
Yeah, I know.
The talk is that some routes were going to be slightly changed…but there is very little info on that specifically.
Starter Systems and High Sec is not the Deep End. I cannot believe how many people are thinking that either were.
If they wanted to attract WOW numbers, they would have already. But we would not have EVE anymore in that case. We’d have a shallow, boring theme park without anything that makes EVE the game it is and is supposed to be.
It’s not pvp they are learning, but how to fly the ship and basic combat. They learn PVP via FW.
It is though. Null, WH, and LS are more like large bodies of water, not a swimming pool where there are hardly ever any creatures.
Well then it is about wrong expectations. The learning curve of course is about how to get on the winning side and not be part of other fights or expect “fair fights”.
Really? I don’t do FW so I wouldn’t know, but I don’t trust this. Can you give some proof or at least personal experience of that?
I tried it just once on 1 month old alt in Amarr space. I had hard troubles even killing the npcs. And the enemy players always had better ship than I had (typically navy or pirate frig) or counter fitted with t2. Or they came with friends at me. I just ran away because what is there to learn about that kind of fights? That you can’t win as new player and you have to leave? The reason I learned so much in Clellion was that I was fighting just as unskilled players as me with just as crappy fits as me. Ie. t1 over t1. And since station had good and populated market I wasted no time to get back into fight or replace my lost ship. Well whatever.
High Sec is not even remotely close to what “Deep End” constitutes. It’s at best the medium depths where you go into from your Shallow Starter Systems and actually can and have to swim with the skills that you learned in the starter systems. You get introduced to this medium depth in an educative manner by nature of the career agents that send you around space and build awareness of what’s around you (Systems, stations, gate connections, other players, questionable players, hostile actions, traffic). None of that exists in Exordium. Exordium is the Baby Pool where you wet your feet and learning to swim is not even on the agenda.
Sigh, where are the actual fights in a deepend of a pool? It’s all still just play/training (or PVE) with the occasional hostile human (ganking). Or even structured competition (duals). There aren’t even waves in a deepend of most pools. It’s all just basic swimming, or basic eve gameplay.
It’s a great place to learn PVP. Part of PVP is knowing when to run and how to use dscan. My corp teaches new players here all the time.
The actual Deep End is beyond High Sec and certain High Sec hot spots. Areas of actual conflict and competitive structure. That’s why it’s ridiculous that people call High Sec the “deep end”. Good that you see it like this as well. ![]()
Herding all these newbs into a more secluded and cut-off space than high sec removes this important learning experience and introduces it to players when they already formed their expectations on the game, which are now based on completely wrong premises.
It makes sense. Because about 1/3 players in EVE lives and stays in highsec. There is enough ISK to grind montly Omega and very little risk of losing ships. There are thousands of players who are only mining or doing L4 missions whole day, every day (or at weekends only). Nothing forces them out of highsec so they won’t. Thus highsec is end-game for them.
Indeed. Most players live in high sec, and of those, most live in Caldari space. You can easily make billions, even in high sec…
Trillions, even…
i have an idea. ship new players a comfortable blanket that says “you won eve” on it. that way they don’t even have to login to feel safe and comfortable. they can do it without a pc while in bed instead.
A Fedo in a “Hold Me” hoodie works too.
