Introducing Exordium!

FC recently clarified in the region explanations added together with Exordium that HS is not PvP-free but has both wars and suicide attacks.

This means the only PvP-free region in EVE in the most recent vision is the newbie zone of Exordium.

To advertise this game as having a ‘PvP-free’ option when this only is a tutorial area is a mistake at best, intentionally misleading at worst.

As I am not one to assume malice when something can equally be explained by imcompetence I am going to assume the marketing team is not intentionally misleading people but made a mistake.

But you’re right, it does not have to be a mistake.

It’s also possible they’re making a deliberate push for “PvP-free” with the marketing to find out exactly how much (or little) this impacts the type of new player they’re hoping to attract with Exordium.

So they’re falsely advertising with something the game is not in order to see how many people show up for the falsely advertised thing?

How will they measure this particular effect though, through an uptick in steam review rants about PvP in a PvP game? Or by a reduced player retention percentage offsetting increased absolute numbers of new players trying the game?

I have no idea whatsoever why they launched that particular ad/marketing campaign for Exordium, nor do I know by what metrics they would qualify it as a “success” (probably something they’d allude to at the next FanFest if it does nudge the needle in the right direction).

Do I agree that it’s a tad (or maybe more than a tad) misleading? Probably. But not necessarily more so than any of their other campaigns alluding to players being able to shape the destiny of EVE. There’s a certain creative license that’s definitely being taken here…

At least being able to shape the destiny of EVE is possible. Some players definitely have done that, even if many more players aren’t going to be as impactful.

But telling players they can play EVE online free of PvP without telling them this is only in the tutorial zone is definitely misleading.

Anything is possible - but that’s also like saying winning the lottery is possible (technically true, even if statistically an improbability).

The offending ad, for those curious…

It should have an asterisk after “Yes - Really”. Or, “Yes - Really! Just kidding, Psych!”

Where is that ad shown? And where does it go once you click on it?

I mean if nothing else is communicated in this flow, then i understand this as a final valid invitation for each and every indstry hog to go to Exordium and just do the thing there. With massive fleets.

Just what was always discussed to be unwanted in the other now closed thread about massive industry operations by established veterans in Exordium.

Just the thing that the no-PVP fraction wanted would then be an official thing.

I am disgusted. Sickened even.

@CCP_Fozzie EVE is PvP. If you genuinely believe otherwise it’s time to give up the reins to someone who is less out of touch.

I don’t remember where I last saw it, sorry. Maybe @Gerard_Amatin recalls?

I only recall seeing it posted by others.

I love my

too much to see ads on the internet.

I’ve flown out to Exordium yesterday to check out the new player area.

As expected some people are milking the new players on the market by commonly selling items at 10x their value and buying them at 10% of their value :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: (both exaggerated values but close the extremes exist!).

That’s more of a sidenote, what I wanted to say is that the game behaves laggier in there, for some reason. And I didn’t seem to be the only because I was also watching the rookie help channel.

Basically I would fit something to my ship and would disappear from the hangar and not show up in the fit either. Or I would buy something from some other station and wouldn’t show in my assets.

The player counts where around ~20 across multiple systems, with the seldom low activity system.

I’ve also found a mission bug which I’ve reported.

I suggest allocating a bit more compute resources to the server that hosts Exordium (or whatever the underlying cause of those lag behaviours are) just to avoid giving the impression of a glitchy game. I generally don’t encounter them in other places of space, and if I do not to that extent (tens of seconds between their vanishing and reappearance).

That is happening to me even in Jita.

As soon as I drop gate I get frame drops in Jita. But I can understand that because often there are 1000+ characters in system.

The problem is that those Established players built EVE. (Exstructio Vetus Eversio)
In my opinion Cradle is a step away from the game design docs that require the existing players to co-create the universe in partnership with the developers.
I suspect that the formation of the CSM has not helped, because nothing this fundamentally flawed can be achieved without committee.
It’s ass backward. EVE players build first, apps - narrative - society, then seep, no, eff shapes, improves and integrates. Cradle is like; we did a thing we know you won’t like, now go make it better - argue amongst yourselves it you must, it is such a sweet distraction from our fundamental betrayal of trust.

“Established players built EVE”

Seriously?

You don’t actually believe that do you?

All players, established, bitter vets, new players etc are simply being led about by the nose by whoever owns whichever company that currently operates EVE OnLine as a profit centre.

Exordium is simply that company trying out something new to see if it increases profitability.

If it does then it will stay, if it doesn’t then expect it to go or at least change drastically.

The company will take on board the opinions of those who the new system is designed for to see what they think is right and wrong.

The company will ignore the opinions of those who the system is not designed for.

Not sure what you point is with this statement. It’s always been the same people.

Always been the same people?

LOL

No, the original developers may have been kept on board but they were given direction by whoever the owners were at the time as to where the game was going.

Where the game is going at any one time is dependent on the owners and their need to make profit

They’ve had the same CEO for ages now…Hilmar has always been the one that profits. PA didn’t really do anything and let Hilmar do what he does (mostly fund failing game projects). Like only Frontiers is going anywhere, and EVE has been successful despite what Fenris does.
