Looks like FC either needs to provide psychological intervention teams to work on the mental attitudes of new players or to implement drastic eviction mechanics to prevent old and new players piling up in the region to a point where the servers can’t handle it anymore ![]()
i been bouncing between, Digimon Story: Time Stranger, Immortals: Fenyx Rising and Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight
I’ve been thinking about this, and I actually think FC should buff Exordium - so that the content is near identical to high-sec (minus the safety tax and an overall -20% less payout). L4 agents, Homefront operations, T1 abyssals and larger ore fields (no ice or anomalies and no incursions).
Here’s the caveat: this “expanded” content is only available to Omega players. And after 30 days, as an Alpha - you either have to upgrade to Omega -or- jump-clone out of Exordium (no undocking). And no returning to Exordium as an Alpha, either (either gate or jump-clone).
We could even allow limited player-owned structures (medium only), PI, POCO (NPC only), player corporations (Omega-only and limited to Exordium) and high-sec style Exordium wars. Still no yellow or red safety.
People would just make new alts monthly to continue playing in full safety for free, or would go Omega and never feel a reason either to move to the real part of the game.
Not a good idea.
Exordium should be limited in both content and profit to give new players a safe and simple introduction before they are encouraged to move on to the real game.
The limited content and profit is the encouragement to explore the real game beyond the safe tutorial zone.
That’s my point, though. EVE could attract a lot of paying PvE players rather than “force” them to play the game as everyone else wants. Inevitably, many of them will eventually leave Exordium. And if they don’t, so what? They’re still helping fund EVE (it’s not like a lot of future development would be going into Exordium).
It would be pretty easy to ban Alpha alts from Exordium so I’m not really too concerned there (not sure how viable it would be creating a new alt every 30 days, since the “expanded” content would never be available to Alphas in the first place).
Exordium (now): Alpha-only, 30 days
Exordium (expanded): Omega only, unlimited
Just make all hi-sec into Exordium and be done with it. ![]()

But it’s good if new players are Alpha and play in Exordium as that zone is made for them.
It becomes problematic though when the tutorial zone is crowded and resources contested not only by new players but also experienced players who refuse to move on, as this makes the new player experience worse.
Even worse is if such players grow in numbers large enough to start demanding expansions of ‘safe content’ beyond a tutorial zone, or ask for extra missions in Exordium so they can keep playing while still not participating in the game.
Exordium as newbie tutorial zone is a good idea, but it should not be anything more than an initial training ground for new players.
I wonder how many people did quit Diablo™ right away once they realized they couldn’t find the best gear directly in town or in the first cathedral level. -_-
Seriously, for someone who really starts fresh and still needs to learn everything, the income in Exordium is way sufficient to fund his frigates or destroyers and the modules he can use. Alone the starter missions pay for this multiple times over, so he has quite a lot of wiggle room for failure or experimentation.
The biggest challenge is to pick the right corp for being recruited, but usually active newbros with potential get spammed with free stuff and their income skyrockets the moment they begin to cooperate. No one can tell me they quit because then someone tells them “yeah but if you leave Exordium, you could be killed!!!”. Who cares about losing a Venture if you make back 10times it’s value per day? Those who quit over such stuff didn’t have the right expectations and mindset for EVE or any other PvP game anyway, so there is absolutel no design approach CCP/FC can come up with to keep them.
If you talk about Diablo 1 and 2 that was different time. Time when there weren’t that many games, when games still brought original ideas and new genres and when gaming was a domain of nerds like us.
Today the situation is different and even the old players who started playing in the golden era are getting more comfy, lazy and impatient. I see that on my own multiplayer server which is 95% populated by old timers.
What was aceptable 20 years ago is simply not acceptable anymore because peoples have families and they don’t want to or can’t spend that much time in a video game.
And EVE is really bad at this. Sure there is some content for which you don’t need to wait like L4 missions, but even then you still need to travel few jumps in super slow ship and go back. And that is one of the best type of content. Yesterday I was trying to suicide myself on an anomaly after someone activated my killright. I spent 25 minutes to find one…
Its early, i have a half a cup a coffee down, and that post was two days ago.
I fully agree with your entire post…so im not sure why and what youre replying me with.
Did you agree with me, disagree with me?..Did you quote the right post?
Again its early, i need more coffee, i have a 6 am meeting that i know will turn chaotic.
Apologies. ![]()

I’m not so sure about that. EVE has to evolve to continue to attract to attract new players. Maybe a safe PvE region would achieve that. Before you say that’s a bad idea, is the alternative of EVE finally dying better? I should also point out that FC is advertising EVE as “PvP free” right now (I’ve both seen and have been advertised to as such).
For most new players PvP is rigged. They’re not going to come out on top and only end up as short-lived content for zkillboard padders. An entire (safe) PvE region that actually provides a lot of content isn’t something that’s necessarily bern tried.
I was reading that even F1 monkeys are splitting their guns/missiles to try and get it on as many kills as possible in large engagements…
I don’t really understand the problem. There is content you can basically chain instantly, like missions or abyssals. Or in null even Anomalies, given the rate that they spawn. Also in the FW areas, you almos never run out of complexes. If there is low player activity, go capture some. If there is high player activity, challenge the ones they make.
Even as a ganker, you could theoretically blow up random people nonstop and just look what they drop. Sure it will probably not be lucrative, most PvP actions are costly and not returning a profit. You can settle in your own little lowclass wh and any time you login you have things to do. Manage your PI, scan down the new sigs, harvest the gas or ore you have, run the combat sites, check out your neighbors if there is something to grab or just scan yourself a KSpace connection to haul loot out and fuel in.
If you are bored in EVE it is defnitely not the games fault, but your own.
yes, I do agree with you and my reply was meant to solidify the points you made earlier. Sry if that was a bit unclear.
Looks like you got some new wormhole content (or content back) today.
What a coincidence, I just shared my opinion on that topic on reddit.
Let me quote myself:
These ads are awful.
Yes there is a new PvP-free tutorial area, but it’s misleading to pretend EVE as a game can be PvP-free. Anyone who joins the game because of the message in this ad is going to feel misled when they realize that there is no way to opt out of PvP once they enter the real game beyond the new tutorial zone.
Technically the message is partially true so I doubt there are consequences for it. Morally it’s completely wrong, as often happens with marketing departments.
FC is really dishonest about the game in this ad and I doubt this will be positive for player retention.
In short I think it’s a terrible idea to pretend EVE is something it is not in order to draw new players with false promises.
While this may result in more people trying the game, many of those players will have heard false promises and rightfully write bad reviews about being misled.
And it reduces player retention values too when players are drawn specifcally by promises of ‘no PvP’ to try EVE.
I do not know which idiot thought this was a good marketing slogan but it’s really one of the worst things FC has done, right after the “your ship died? Buy some PLEX!” pop-up after first ship loss.
Awful.
The only redeeming factor of that ad could be that it’s posted as rage bait. Or “Bad publicity is publicity”.
Huh - never heard of that one (the PLEX pop-up). I don’t know what to tell you - maybe they plan to make high-sec predominantly PvE in terms of activities.
I know FC keeps saying (or maybe they haven’t been saying this lately?) that ganking is a legitimate form of PvP, but the caveats are now that a) it can’t be against new players, b) it has to be a profitable attempt (not sure where the Magic School Bus falls here), c) it can’t be punitive (going after the same player over and over) and d) it can’t just be for sh*ts and giggles.
There are other forms of “PvP” in high-sec: wars, mining, manufacturing and trading so maybe it’s long overdue to just remove red safety from high-sec and stop pretending already. The marketing sure seems to be leaning towards it…
The marketing team heard Exordium was added as PvP-free region and uses that to advertise the game in a way that misleads anyone who wishes to play beyond the tutorial.
That’s all there is to it, I guess, and I very much doubt high sec will see changes just because the marketing team made a mistake.
We’re operating under the assumption that it was a mistake…
You don’t even need Exordium at all as a newbie these days. The daily goals alone keep you afloat. 1m isk for comparatively almost no effort.
I don’t even want to remember how long it took for me to get my first total 1m isk back 23 years ago and after that the development needed to make 1m isk in a reasonable time.
It just laughable these days. You get up to full speed to a comfortable frigate and cruiser life almost the moment you create an account.
