That’s the joke. Well, half of the joke.
Everything dies. Eve has kicked 15 years in the industry and that is alot of time. Personally I think CCP is doing a good job. The game is perfectly balanced and that is important for its lifespan. Every one has the possibility to play and climb the high ranks. I dont think its dying , if they keep up it will last some more years.
It’s not perfectly balanced. We have now been waiting like 2 years for the promised overhaul of all subcap modules in to meaningful lines. Like getting compact/enduring shield boosters and guns that aren’t slaves to an almost completely defunct weapon design aka meta 0-5.
There’s also some QOL passes that could be made to certain ships like hawk,corax enyo, most t1 cruisers and nerfs to stupid crap like VNI and gila.
Maybe some day in the DISTANT future they will finally unfuck LP stores but I wouldn’t count on it.
We are talking about a game who has alot of details and elements in it, keeping them together in balance is not easy.
That is funny joke, da?
I sure hope it isn’t dying. It’s a pretty well balanced game and, despite recent develpments in SP trade which I’m not thrilled about, I think CCP are pretty good at keeping things real in terms of balance, new content and price.
We all need some way to escape from the World for a few hours some times and I’m not aware of a single other game with the same depth, complexity and history that Eve has.
NO ❤❤❤
Lol it is though.
Every game has its complainers, conspiracy theories, ect. So does EVE. The game is good, not the best but its good. I enjoy it, you people gota enjoy the bright side of things. I can play even without paying cash, it also gives me the oportunity to PLEX my account. How good is that?
Well its not what you said lol.
But then it depends how you want to measure “climbing the high ranks”.
Set your own goals, sure.
But dont kid yourself as to how powerful you can become.
If you set your goals high and put the good work for it no matter how much time or work it requires you can achieve it.
Thats so innocent its adorable.
Because your all pessimists and have no will to achive what you want. The first obstacle you face you all give up and whine the game sux and is dying.
Id be fascinated to hear how you intend to get T2 ship bpos.
As far as I know you cant. You can just research the BPCs. Which is fairly more balanced than geting the BPO
dying is a matter of personal interpretation. With the exception of the alpha account spike EVE has been in a phase of stagnation for about 7-10 years now. The alpha’s were a attempt to rejuvenate the dwindled player base. But like all such attempts it will inevitably fail without the ground work to reinstate growth. The games long term health has been pinned back by several key mechanics that are like a slow bleed out. i am not gonna mention them but they are well debated issues and they slowly cost players. you see eve caters to the hardcore with more time than sense. but they are a minor part of the market ccp needs to cater to. and for a long time eve has neglected the casual players.
there are 3 main considerations.
-
EVE IS A MMO but 75% of the day its more single player. as most people have a prime time. the game has abandoned that 75% and as such a lot of the time players find themselves either needing a army of alt or stuck doing things like missions or belt ratting. the introduction of the abyss was the first whole new solo player activity added to eve in probably over a decade.
-
there are core mechanics that make no job hardcore players happy but everyone else miserable. not naming names. but they are there and they have been costing the more casual players endless misery for years. they have cost me more friend in the 15 years ive played than anything but having kids and a family.

EVE has got harder. A lot harder. Dont listen to the other bitter vets. they are wrong. EVE has been softened on the edges in a few minor ways but its core has grown bigger and harder. Here is a example. Back when I first went to 0.0 there were two factors to travel. 1 the number of WCS you had and 2 the number of scrambles they had. No dictors, hictors, static bubbles, warp to 0. There was no 20km points or 2 point scramblers. no nullification. No interceptor. What there was. There was: ab/mwd fits that made you super fast, there was ecm and thats about it. Eve has grown into a beast of feature and counter feature. EVE would require a degrees worth of learning to understand the ins and outs of everything now.
oh and for measure
Dont forget there has been a number of failed experiments by CCP that have cost many players. WIS, WH’s, a number of flawed side games such as DUST the insane attempt to break the fps market that was already flooded and moved to fast for CCP to keep up with. All of them have added to EVE’s stagnation and that costs players. The best thing PA could do is come in and kick CCP into moving on several contentious issues. and push developing the core mechanics and story. Like fleet war is a insanely under developed feature. Making that actually matter would be interesting. And has the potential to reshape the game massively.
Bottom line is. EVE is not really dying as it has buckets of potential left unexplored. It is stagnating because of bad management that can be best embodied by the flawed concept of sandboxes. Sandbox games are bad. Because sand is boring, that is why kids grow out of them at a certain age and start playing video games with stories. ffs look at fortnight. They have driven that game with a constant story that updates their map and keeps it fresh. THAT IS HOW YOU DO IT!
but how many of them have multi accounts? When i said this i think about people who have more then 5.
i saw people flying on 20-40 accounts in same time. It is insane, but ccp make possible such gameplay so people use this opportunity to the edge of abuse.
3 years ago @CCP_Quant mentioned an estimate of between 1.35 and 1.65 accounts per user, and that this remained stable for a long while. The - somewhat more interesting, IMO - cumulative density graphs indicate that 86% of players have at most 2 accounts, and 65% have at most 1.
At the time of writing, there is 21480 accounts online. I take the numbers from http://i.imgur.com/MMGqVO2.png and plug them into a tiny bit of terrible Python:
>>> players = 21480
>>> stats = [0.65, 0.206, 0.08, 0.032, 0.014, 0.007, 0.004, 0.002, 0.001, 0.001]
>>> sum(stats[i] * players / (i + 1) for i in range(len(stats)))
17026.462952380953
So, that’s an estimate of the number of of “real” players. Note that, unless something that remained static for a decade changed, this will be a similar proportion as in the past.
Well. You can. There are some T2 BPOs around.
The truth is that they not worth buying. Yes, you don’t need to invent and all this stuff but you can ROI is couple years in here. You better go with BPCs.
I come back to EvE after two year break and I see less players everywhere.
Less players in low-sec roams and camps, almost empty NPC 0.0 space, no camps on 0.0 <> Empire gates.
Less players doing missions, less scammers and baiters praying on mission runners. No ninja-salvagers at all, really?
Less players in incursion fleets, and less fleets in incursion systems.
Less newbies in recruitment channels, almost none of them.
Less players in wormholes. Doing exploration this days I barely see anyone on dscan, only abandoned POS towers.
Where all this 20 000 - 30 000 players listed on EvE launcher? In sov nullsec maybe, grinding for supers?
