Is owning a freighter really worth it?

The more successful I’ve seen at this its like the icing to the cap/jf cake.

At that point they…

Know how to move stuff. the cap/jf made it to low/high sec interface and jumped that. and lived the .5 system most low sec interface systems are lol. Amamake gate at times, both sides of it even, can be “fun” times lol.

also they have alt accounts. Cyno(s) was on it. A scout/webber is too.

No. It’s not really worth it.

Same with mining, so I try to change it up with moving to different systems.

That’s more of a relative thing: if there were 30 freighters flying through the Forge this past week, that’s pretty common. If there were 3,000, then that’s actually rare. So you’d need an idea of the freighter jump numbers to have some perspective on that.

The other things to check would be:

  • In what systems? Did those freighters fly through known gank spots?
  • With what value and fit? Was the Cargo value/Tank such that they were gank-magnets?
  • Were they being auto-piloted?
  • At what time of day? What precautions were taken?

etc.

I’ve never freightered, so I can’t say what the risk profile really is. Like you, I find the checklist of “things you need to do to haul with some degree of confidence” to boil down to “not worth the trouble”. That’s why I do my hauling by contracts and let people who know the business handle it.

That said, my hauling contracts are generally picked up quite quickly and 99% of them are delivered safely (and I get the collateral if they aren’t). Obviously some people are making a reliable practice of it.

As long as I am enjoying whatever story I have in my head…I’m playing Eve just right for me. It really doesn’t matter whether others see my activities as epic adventures or not. To me that is the only basis for enjoying a game, and is the answer also to the OP question. And if others try to thwart one’s adventure…which is a perfectly legitimate thing for them to do…that can be added to the epic ‘hero’s story’ too.

It matters to me, and I’m the one who matters most.

Well I agree with the frame of mind…that is what matters most in Eve, above all ships and weapons and mega-corps.

That’s right, Aiko above all.

No, don’t do it.

Then to you it is worth it to own a freighter. I guess your thread title should’ve been a statement and not a question. EvE has a few huge freighters depending on how much you want to spend.

I too like to suggest Red Frog for high value cargo.

As I recall once trying other Safety @Aiko_Danuja channels and am still to this day waiting for my ice to be delivered to Perimeter.

It is.

Carpel tunnel, vertigo, and inner ear infections are all documented risks of ship spinning.

Highsec moon mining in a Retriever. Decent money.

Depends on how often and how much you haul.

If you consistently haul a lot, then a freighter is worth it.

Or you could simply use an Orca to haul around your items to safe guard being ganked and losing a large haul.

You already have a few gankers watching your comments.

Where is your freighter currently?

My freighter is in my bearhole. It’s my ‘o-crap’ ship.
If we get sieged and can’t defend, repackage as much as i can, dump it in my dreads and freighter and evac it out in a couple months.

Except if you spin the ship too hard and your mouse then falls on the dog, which rushes outside and bites the postman delivering your £10,000,000 lottery check, who decides to tear it up, thus depriving you of the funds to write your new book ‘The Butterfly Effect’.

The logic of freigjter ship is too simple.

i have both normal and JF with the amount of trit i burn through building things i couldnt do it with them…only other way would be to mine it myself and that in itself just brings other risks

Look at how much you make and how much would really need the freighter.

I once owned a Charon and an orca. At some point I said yeah…Charon was really not needed. Orca has served my hauling needs fine for me. But that was me looking at my needs. Others needs are different.
