Is there even a point to playing this game if wanting to do solo PvE outside of high sec?

Basically. If engaged when in angels I’d make last stand on a site. It gave LP if we won. Nothing comes from “wins” on non lp bearing content. In theory you can set up your killzone around the landing point if someone showed up as well.

For some higher stages in empire systems I just left that to HMA if they showed up. I was more into sites and seeing when those wt’s said wth, lets engage really.

Newer miners in ventures just weren’t on the radar for me.

Same experience for me, although now that I’m trying out various low sec PVP activities on some of my alts, it is quickly becoming apparent that low sec has become a blob fest too.

CCP cleverly designed FW to be a PvE feature disguised as a PvP feature, in order to give money-grinding carebears (and in many cases, if you’re familiar with how FW sites used to be like, RMT bot operators) the ability to farm income with virtually zero threat of danger while pretending to be, and downright convincing themselves that they are, elite spaceship PvP warriors.

Even tutucox, one of the most prolific FW “enjoyers” who’s a regular around here, finally admitted that this is indeed the truth after years of trying to find some way to make a case against the argument.

Here are some important game facts that apply to many online PvP games;

Solo Play - You are engaged in a world of real players on the internet. Why do players want to play alone? There are many reasons, other than they are being anti-social. When you play a multiplayer game online, you should expect to meet other players. When I encounter another player I often think of them as an advanced NPC in the PvE.

Open World PvP versus PvE - Eve Online allows you to sit at dock and buy materials, craft them into better quality goods to be sold. This position is akin to being an office manager, who sits at his desk all day and never goes outside, due to their phobia of being hit by the firetruck. Crafting on the side and building stuff can be fun, but all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. Buying, building, and selling can make you rich, but then how do you enjoy your wealth?

Paid versus Free - I remain a so-called free account. I say so-called, because I have bought Plex and not Omega. Almost all these games today have the “Play for Free” option. Here you are either Omega or a clay pigeon. Players will call it a free trial, since they lock stuff behind a paywall. I have played games that allow you to experience all the content. Players often call them “Grind for Free” and without the benefits of being a VIP member you end up working the game instead of enjoying it.

In the end, we all play online games to experience the human element. While AI has progressed, it still can’t perform as well as a human player. Offline solo games are too predictable. I even came across an online game that allowed me to play it alone in God Mode, it got boring very fast. Don’t bother asking, while the game is still online, they removed the ability to play it solo several years ago. If the game is too easy, there is no challenge, and without the trial by fire there is no reason to play. This is why I don’t buy omega, it is like putting the game into god mode and using a crutch I don’t need.

I’m still amazed that no other studio has tried to make a better EVE alternative. Its essentially a license to print money.

Gamers are generally uninterested in spaceship games. There’s really just that one big Star Trek boomer demographic that’s propping up the niche, and that’s it.

Oh, I thought @DrysonBennington wanted us to go to low sec pop him and his faction carebears, too lazy to come to us.

None of these “talkers” will ever fight you. That’s why they only passive-aggressively talk trash on forum alt accounts.

Well, Dryson might fight you, theoretically. You will have to come to him though, and only when he has 12 people in his fleet. No, I mean 18 people in his fleet. Also, you will have to fly a Merlin (he will be in a Drake). Actually, no, you’ll have to fly a Condor. Also the fight would have to begin at close range. And you have to promise to not move until it begins. And when you do move you’ll have to cap your velocity at 150 m/s. Also you aren’t allowed to shoot for 10 seconds after locking. Actually, no, 15 seconds. No make it 20 seconds just to be sure. Also you can’t use a scrambler. You can’t use another module in that slot because that’s where the scrambler would be, so you can’t put a shield resist mod there or anything. You can put an asteroid scanner there to occupy the slot. Also, you have to go suspect-flagged first.

What’s the matter, ganker? Are you scared of a REAL PvP fight? Thought so!

If you followed Drisin’s advice, you could make a couple isk.

In other words a 1v1.

I’m surprised as well. A simple remade version of Eve Online with World of Warcraft servers would open the game to many new fans.

If 100,000 players were playing the new version where players could play as Sleepers, Drifters or Rogue Drones, based on AI being popular, players identifying as AI would have a place to game.

Tell me about it. I am always baffled by people who don’t seem to grasp they’ve signed up to a multiplayer game…not solo Farmville.

I think ‘space’ is largely incidental to it. Nice theme, but you could just as easily have an equivalent of Eve with a wild west theme and gangs with sherrifs and outlaws and cattle ranchers and cows munching the grass to end up as steaks, and gankers ganking the cows. What makes Eve fascinating and enjoyable is the carnage and the dark ‘deal with it’ dystopian wild west theme.

A MMO designed around team play no less.

Several classes of ships exist not to apply good dps. they are fleet effect mulitpliers. Support roles is their thing.

A ship can be fast, be low sig. The Pilot can do implants and combat drugs.

An EAF like hyena says lets slaps some paint and webs on it to make it interesting.
the EAF that is not there to dps. As some fits rip out high slots due to tight fitting to get on oversized plates (to not die so fast), and combinations of web and paint to 3.

Its worked well for wrath version lol.

I’ve had some BG’s the best you could hope for was only 50% bots a side. so that enough real players were there to work objectives in some way.

You needed other team to be 50% bots to not have it be a roll stomp loss.

Well yes…a whole bunch of ships exist that only really make sense as part of a fleet. I don’t think I’d want to use a ship with a long spool up time ( like Drekavac, Leshak ) for solo PvP. Generally the ships I venture out solo in have instant max DPS at high level and sensor boosters, etc, and often shorter range than fleet doctrine ships.
