Jettison can no info countodwn?

I saw my jettison can with a blinkg red vector,
I tried to look at it with info how much time left I had on it…
or health, if someone was shooting at it…
but nothing… no info at all…
I remembered that they would last for 24 hours…
but here passed less than three hours…
And it was gone…
I lost 15Mil isk of Ore…
How is it possible… have it been changes in the lifespan of jettisoned can,
and why the info didn’t say nothing about its lifespan?
I I was supposed to understand other than the visual red vector blinking???

2 hours unless you name the can, which only extends that for a little while. I forget the exact amount of time after naming them.

two hours! … ouch maybe I confused it with the mobile attractor…
damn it… I hoped it had some sort of countdown I could read…

That is why every so often youll see cans with “11:15”, or “21:34”, floating in space. People name them their time of creation so as to know which needs to be hauled in first.

  • Jetcan/Wrecks [Lifespan: 2h or until Downtime] - cargo container created by jettison cargo from ship, when a wreck with loot is salvaged, picking up MTU with loot in it, or destroying missile/gun towers in deadspace pockets.
  • Mobile Tracktor Unit [Lifespan: 2 days]
  • Mobile Depot [Lifespan: 30 days]
  • Audit/Secure Container [Lifespan: ??] - Note: before Mobile Depot these were used for Corporation Advertisements in space. Currently the description of these containers does not list an expiration time, but I believe they used to have something like 3 or 7 days (resetting when you interacted with it’s content).

Those have a 30 day expiration timer which resets when you access it and remove or place something inside it..

I think unless im wrong, the audit container is only 21 days, but resets the timer when accessed

According to Uniwiki:

Secure Container and Audit Log Secure Container have the same basic functionality…

When deployed, lasts 30 days in space.

Ok so its just the function that you cant do anything with it for 3 weeks then. You can pick it up but if someone accessed it before you pick it up you cant reprocess it or repackage it for 3 weeks. Even to empty it out you still gotta wait 3 weeks.

Yeah that’s probably just for the Audit log secure containers since those are more for Corporation / Alliance members…

I use regular Secure Containers all the time… In the past I’ve had my alts as well as various Eve friends access them… I’ve never had any waiting time to un-anchor or repackage them after another character has accessed them…

This is how I use jetcans while mining in LS;

  1. Make a safe spot location marker ( aka bookmark )
  2. Mine for a bit, warp to the safe spot, and jet can the load.
  3. Repeat the step above but moving the contents from the last can into the next.

This rotation will keep the jet can fresh while you mine. If your venture gets blown up, you won’t lose the cargo, unless they are real good at tracking you to your safe spot. So don’t hang out in that spot for very long and you might want to scan for combat probes before you head there. When done, return with your hauler to collect your cargo.

This works well in systems that have no NPC station to dump you loads. Also jetcans hold a lot more than any MTU. As a rule of thumb, when LS mining I randomly drop my load well before it gets full. If someone is watching they could establish a pattern.

Have fun!

since the beginning of time!

Yes, and it allowed for many jet-can-thieving shenanigans along the way.

My best story was a guy had stolen my cans by putting it in one of his own and I just stole them back and waltzed-warped off as I had pre-aligned and warped as soon as I stole and he was left with nothing. He was so furious as he had wanted a juicy killmail. Circa 2004.

My fav was jetcan mining in combat fitted ships or having friends nearby that could also jump in

Sadly the rifter has never been the same…
