yeah, thank you for the update. we heard the same 2 days ago
I believe each redeemed item has itâs unique ID, each item has a unique relation to the pilot this item was delivered, as itâs common sense in any DB architecture. So fix for this is just adding 150k SP to pilots who still have connected item in their assets database and removing this item from assets database. Not sure why itâs so difficult to fix, unless there is more serious architecture error behind this stuff.
In the spirit of fairness, Iâm honestly not surprised theyâre taking their time with this. Itâs not an easy problem. The hotfix dealt with the issue going forward, but the items already redeemed require a solution which is either going to be very complicated or supremely unfair to somebody. This thing has more edge cases than a thing with lots of edges.
They clearly didnât intend for the items to be traded. Giving out 150k SP to every active pilot is very far from handing out SP containers which can be amassed and used to boost single (rich) characters. Regular skill injectors have diminishing returns when used on high SP characters - these, so far, do not. If they apply such a retroactive change, then suddenly theyâve helped a group of early enterprising characters scam somebody else.
Conversely, they could roll back all trades. They have the data, itâs not going to be a huge deal technically. But what happens to unrelated trades made by those parties? Third party resales? People going into negative wallet balance if you undo the trades? Rolling back trades made with the isk from the SP item? Again, somebodyâs going to get screwed as a consequence of an unpredictable CCP action, which probably isnât what they hoped to accomplish with a customer loyalty campaign.
Itâs easy to go âIf you trade a clearly bugged item and get screwed, thatâs your fault,â and I would agree. But on the other hand, others could have traded it without even realizing itâs bugged: Skill points I donât need, letâs sell the bastards for a quick isk injection instead. That, after all, is what some of us wished the other login ârewardsâ were like. And once again, you have to decide whom to screw over.
They know exactly who got what, and subsequently what happened to the items. Making the choices can take a bit, and thatâs probably for the best.
Well, I understand the complexity of decision for traded/contracted items, BUT, it one sees the item canât be used = understands itâs bugged and decided to trade it to someone, so literally itâs scam - itâs not a bad decision to punish those who decided to scam other players instead of just report a bug and wait for the fix.
What about the players who bought several 150K item âŠ
The first day it was possible via contract
The second day : hotfix from CCP to prevent that.
the third day : redeem system working correctly
âŠ
I am not in a hurry to get those 150K .
You bought something based on a software bug, probably knowing full well that you were exploiting a programming error. You think CCP needs to accommodate you now? I vote that those things just go âpoofâ and disappear back into the original redeem queue.
It may have been that the 150K item is not linked to the first owner in the database .
So that compels their customer service to track through contract the real one
revert the contract to solve âthose unseen consequences of their implementation of that rewardâ
You can always says some buy them on purpose, but there is always an innocent in the crossfire
It has a very clear description of what it does, and how it is used Redeem your skill points by dragging this item onto a character at selection, or by finding it in your Neocom at Inventory > Redeem Items. The skill points can be applied via your Character Sheet.
The only issue is that the item cannot be used as described.
Whether or not CCP wanted to do this or not, is not our issue. This is NOT a bug or exploit. Itâs what they did.
Issue description from this forum thread DID NOT prohibit the item trading.
The only valid solution is to make this item work as described in the item description.
If you hold this item, or have bought it from someone else, you must be able to use it as described.
For one of the characters I did EXACTLY as it is written in that description, in THE VERY FIRST DAY. Ended up as for another character as useless can in the hangarâŠ
It is an item, which implies that it can be consumed. By redeeming it we got an item that exists in the game, not skill points that are automatically applied.
Similarly, they can decide to deliver the skip skin by giving out the item through a redeeming process (that can be activated), or it can be directly applied (activated) on a given character.
How will the player activate this item is their on-going problem now. They can remove items and apply the points or make them consumable like a skill injector.
