Without the reading of forums many people probably bought it thinking its legitimate stuff. Then to find out its some bugged and unusable thing CCP will probably want to remove.
What a mess. Thats whats happening when there is not enough quality control, as I have seen similar things where I work, sometimes even something with error being passed around and nobody questions it.

What did the recent patch do?
Same as the recent patch that was supposed to sort out solar glare did, absolutely naff all. o7

It would have taken a lot less developer time to just test this, rather than trying to sort out the mess afterward.

Last update 13:30… How long will it take to fix this think ?
I think we should be allowed to keep the broken item as like a status symbol, since they patched a fix within 2 hrs of downtime its technically a limited edition item, priceless.

They are giving all the smart players time to redeem the items and contract them to other players - in the hopes of getting double-reimbursed.
