Kryos vs the Miasmos vs the Primae

people asked “hauler for ICE Products”. you know all that “strontium” and “heavy water”… degenerates from cpp created “another hauler for ice”. dont try to find logic in regular stupidity.

Kryos should be split into 2 hulls.

1 for only Ice Products, 1 for Minerals.

90K m3 cargo.

I was going to say the Miasmos is obviously intended to haul mining stuff for t1 haulers so it should hold more than an ice hauler. Think of the Kryos as more of a mineral hauler that gets you might be able to haul some ice on the side. It shoudl never be able to outperform the Misasmos.

Then I read thought about the name. And… you sort of have a point? How about 30K “all ice” hold that can scale with level and a 30K “uncompressed ice only” hold that never gets bigger. That way it can finally hold more ice, at least uncompressed.

And the compression suggestion I think is sill, why should it have the ability to compress mining stuff? In fact, why should anything smaller than an orca compress? Why does the Porpoise get any comrpession ability?

There should never be a hold that holds either compressed or uncompressed ore or ice. That would open the door for a lot of issues.

The Kryos is there to hold refined minerals like Tritanium as well as ice. 75,000 cubic meters of refined minerals and 45,000 cubic meters of ice. That doesn’t mean that it’s nerfed or under-performs. It means that it carries both minerals and ice. Just ask CCP to dump the mineral hold and expand the ice hold. That would give it 120,000 cubic meters of ice hauling.

It doesn’t need anything more- just swap out the mineral hold for more ice storage.

Of course, the best way to haul ice is to refine it and throw it all into a Deluge. The infrastructure hold will carry every bit of refined ice. Annnnnd just for fun, the Avalanche will hold over a billion ISK worth of Heavy Water. It will hold around 8 million units of Heavy Water.

The change was done circa 2022-2024.

They added gas holds and ice holds to various ships.

The problem I see…is that the ice reprocessed materials do not fit clearly into various categories of hold interaction.

Just like the recent Catalyst change with Prismaticite has created a whole ton of new “Unrefined Minerals” which count as minerals in transport…but not actual production. You have to further reprocess the Unrefined into Minerals. There is a problem with this particular concept because its currently a bit backwards.

And during the 2021/2022 Mining Changes…CCP did add to several ships on SISI…including Expedition Frigates and Barges seperate ice/gas holds for tests.

I think that was shelved because it would have allowed for more resource collection/holding than before.

Because a Mining Hold isn’t yet coded only for minable ore only. (It can hold ore/ice/gas)

Where as a specialty hold…has to be coded and constrained to specific items.

But CCP has shown with the Edencom Haulers and the Odysseus…they can create multi-role holds easily. I just think its more about value and which items they deem important to give a ship hull some sort of upgrade either in a set of unique holds…or a multi-role hull.

Although that introduces some power creep/mechanic headaches. [Edencom Haulers becoming literal station pinatas at the moment. Allowing for some weird station spam strategies to flourish]

I personally would rather see either T2 versions of the specialty haulers…with much larger specialty holds than their baseline models.

Or…specialized hold expanders (like the cargohold expanders) This is easier to do…and much easier for CCP balance as well.

We should also get an ORE heavy (mining hold/speciality hold) freighter…that can move more bulk.

CCP tried to alleviate the PI situation circa 2022-2023 by shrinking PI m3…same thing happened to Event Loot as well. Without some consideration of issues with PI setup…PI used to require specific connection m3 per cycle. And that was a check on PI spam. But with the PI shrinking…it became an issue. IE allowed PI builds to become more dense and generate more materials.

it is an interesting problem. Because there are two thoughts of balance going on. Players think of fits and potentially there are work outs and counters in play. But at the same time I can detect what I call a “top down” balancing perception of the game as well. Sometimes that forgets small details. Like in PI.

Upwell Haulers and Freighters have Industrial Holds which will hold every bit of reprocessed ice. So an Avalanche can hold 8,000,000m³ of reprocessed ice material with max skills.

Freighters are cargo holds.

Upwheel Infrastructure hold…is hmmmm…(grimaces) an interesting problem to be honest.
Because you can do alot of different things with it.

Technically Ice Reprocessing Materials are pretty light. So even small haulers can move them pretty well.

Although I would have a debate over…if there should be some changes so things are better balanced strategically. But that is for a different time.

I hate you for this now
