Good question!
You’re right. Not undocking is a choice and there’s play styles that will lend to it. Funny enough, not logging in often as well since those of us who run large communities get to play “eve offline”.
However, when we look at the bigger picture, those of us who have game play that causes us to stay docked up (or not even logging in a lot of times) is small compared to the rest of the game. Especially in the day 1 to year 1 bracket.
My aspirations are to reach the players that log in and honestly have no idea what to do next. Or have something blocking them from undocking and taking part in different activities.
For example, did you know that there are a surprising amount of players I’ve spoken to that feel the push to do the daily opportunities are a road block? So if CCP were to do a mass survey asking about this and find out there really are a lot of players who feel this way, they could simply make the opportunities an opt out in the menu.
So, end of day, if you’re happy in the sandbox and are doing your thing? Fantastic. Play it the way you want. However, if there’s something keeping you from undocking and you’re just spinning your ship or faced with decision paralysis, lets talk.
