bump. launcher still going black.
The launcher is built using Electron - a JavaScript frontend framework for desktop applications. This is not CCPâs fault, itâs Electronâs. Other Electron applications have the same issue (Discord, for example).
Until Electron releases a fix, thereâs a very small chance that CCP can do anything.
CCP chose to this.
Yes, it is CCPs fault, the chose to start this, they choose every day to continue use this.
So they should do what, exactly? Switch to another framework or language? You do know that every software tool, including frameworks and languages, have their own issues from time to time? Switching the whole technology stack of an application that is experiencing issues with the current one means only one thing - you will encounter some other new issues some time in the future that are specific to that new technology stack.
Yes,âŠ. sure⊠at some point if the issues are too severe, a company can choose to switch to another tech stack, but that comes at the cost of training developers to work with the new tools (or hiring new ones that already know how to work with it). Also, while the transition is being worked on, you have to have a feature freeze for the original app and stop (or slow down to a crawl) the development until the new platform is ready to go to production. This is done only in extreme cases when there are severe issues with the current technology. A screen going blank until the app is relaunched or appâs window maximized is not a critical issue. An annoyance? Oh yes. But not a critical issue.
Switching hardware acceleration and hi-res option off fixed this issue for me.
I understand that there is a bug. But this one is easily overcome, so i donât get why everyone is making such a big fuss over it?
The launcher afterall takes a considerable amount of resources of the GPU and of RAM. So i prefer to close it when not needed to ease load on the system. Therefore i donât experience the bug at all. Just a thought if you are also complaining about low EVE performance: you can free quite some resources by just closing the launcher and that is what i would also complain about - that the launcher is as resource heavy on GPU and system RAM as it isâŠ
because its very annoying and makes me think how inept the devs of this shitty thing that has the only purpose to launch the game actually are. Its a panel with few buttons, thats it. Not a complicated thing, apart of secure account management maybe.
I have to retract this. It helped for a while but then the old behavior creeped back in.
fix this.
FIX THIS!!
Did you create a bug report for it?
Iâm not sure if a thread here catches CCPâs attention, it seems to me more a place where players can share workarounds.
I too still get black launchers from time to time, especially when the launcher goes unused for a while.
I might send a bug report next time I see it happen.
they are aware, they tried to fix it to no success. But Iâm sick and tired of staring at this black stupid hole on my desktop where the launcher usually is. FIX IT PLS!!!
WellâŠi would have preferred no fix i guessâŠthe fix introduced all kinds of new funny problems. But to stay at black launcher problem:
Once it runs, it seems fine, but occasionally it now starts completely black for me. Problem is then what to do? You canât see if it is done updating and you want to shut it downâŠi guess this might lead to problems if you kill it in a wrong state?
Problem worsenedâŠnow i have to start the launcher 4-5 times in a row before it doesnât greet me with a totally black window⊠i would very much like a fix or a rollback for the launcher. Previously you had at least a deterministic behavior and a deterministic workaround by just restarting the launcher.
