Summary:
Killmails should be accessible to all characters involved in the kill, not just the victim and final blow pilot. This would improve transparency, simplify fleet coordination, and reflect the collaborative nature of EVE combat.
Current Limitation:
Currently, only the victim and the final blow pilot can access killmails via ESI.
Everyone else — even if they participated in the fight — must rely on third-party tools like zKillboard (if the killmail is uploaded), or ask in fleet who got the final blow and ask for that person to link it.
Why This Should Change:
• Group effort deserves group access
All attackers contributed to the kill, not just the person who got the last damage.
• No added privacy risk
Once uploaded to zKillboard by either party, it becomes public anyway.
As soon as more than one person has the killmail, there is no privacy for the victim.
• Corporation-level ESI scopes
Corps can already expose member killmails, making “individual privacy” inconsistent.
Both on the victim and killer side.
• Reduces fleet friction
No need to ask “who got the kill?” or wait for delayed uploads.
• Improves data completeness
More people with access = higher chance of submission and visibility.
Proposal:
Update in-game and ESI so that all characters listed in a killmail (attackers and victim) are authorized to retrieve it using their ESI token.
Conclusion:
This change reflects how PvP actually works in EVE: it’s a group activity.
Every participant should be able to access the result of their shared engagement.
