Wrong sorting is most common reason, e.g. by jumps for example.
I’ve done this myself, and chose to do so to save time.
I’d rather pay slightly (definition of “slightly” varies by context) more and spend less time clicking on individual orders, than not.
Example, I need 10 of “something” module. The cheapest listing is for one item of that module, next sales order up is for 2 modules and the third order up is for 25 modules (at an increased price). I’ll buy from seller number 3 at the increased price, knowing full well I’ll pay more and Seller One and Seller Two will sell their modules to me at Seller Three’s price, just because it is easier to make one purchase instead of three purchases.
I have also benefited from this myself, just this past week.
I tend to do it for things like Trit.
Because when I want 100 million units, I don’t want to buy in dribs and drabs. I’ll take the hit and spend 0.06isk more for most of it.
