As part of our move to Python 3, we are planning a public test on Singularity beginning this Friday, 11 September, and running through the weekend until Monday the 14th.
Because this is a large project, we’ll be periodically opening up Singularity to players so we can test multiple systems in a situation that simulates a live environment. We ran a test back in July which was super helpful to us.
This test is more focused on some optimizations to the network layer and the teams are looking to collect performance and stability data. Essentially - just log into Singularity at your leisure and do stuff to things!
Be mindful that test server rules still apply. Punishments for flagrant infractions received on Singularity may extend to Tranquility, and can impact things like participation in the Alliance Tournament and other fun projects.
How to connect to Singularity for this test:
Change the server from Tranquility to Singularity in the bottom right corner of the launcher and log in as normal.
More detailed instructions are available here.
Theres a page that details what it takes to mirror.
The process of “mirroring” consists of taking an exact copy of the Tranquility database, including character and account data, like a snapshot. This copy is then processed by the CCP Deployment team and all starbases are removed in order to prevent players from spying on their positions and then using this information on the live server. Basic moon minerals are available in all moons, to help testing and prevent moon scouting on the test server.
All accounts are edited so they don’t expire. Standing and Loyalty Points are removed. Science and Industry jobs are removed (because jobs in starbases would get stuck). All assets of structures are moved into asset safety. The market is seeded so that all market items cost 100 ISK and are in plentiful supply. At least one station per constellation is market seeded like this. In addition there are some other internal adjustments. This entire process can take up to 3 days, then the Singularity server is open for public
Characters created in between mirrors will not be able to get on SiSi until after the next mirror is completed
There will be a series of these for various different dev teams and disciplines. Our testing for the Python upgrade is usually a bit different from standard “feature” mass-tests, because we’re testing the overall stability of the game doing a variety of things rather than a singular moment to try and push a server over the edge. For some of the larger ones, we’ll also make a post on the EVE Launcher so you can find information about when they are a bit sooner and plan accordingly.
We appreciate everyone helping on this test - the teams were able to find some stability issues. Singularity is the closest approximation to Tranquility that we have from a hardware standpoint, and testing on environments like this can shed light on problems that we don’t catch on internal tests.
Also I’ve cleaned up the thread quite a bit, mostly around your post @Teodo_Dastem
I appreciate your enthusiasm for a PvE server and discussing potential upsides and drawbacks with peers. However, this thread isn’t the venue for it. The better spot would be here: Player Features & Ideas - EVE Online Forums
