Look, I know how to use pyfa and can make good fit myself if I need one. Still during 4 years of playing I havent seen situation where you fit medium battery as your largest one and its at least semi-optimal way to fit ship. Sure there are rare cases when you dont have enough fitting to fit second or even third large battery and abyssal medium can make sense, especially if you look at prices of medium and large battery mutaplasmids. But in general, small ships dont have enough fitting for it and medium+ ships simply fit large batery right away. What do you guys think? Any good use cases of non-storyline medium batteries?
They are indeed underperforming compared to the small versions (which indeed can make sense on some frigate fits) and the large ones (which are especially good on cruiser or battlecruiser size hulls if you can free up the powergrid).
I’d agree that their main drawback is the fact that they can’t be reasonably fitted on at least destroyer hulls. On frigs they would probably be as OP as the large ones are currently on cruisers…
For the amount of capacitor and neut-resistance you gain, a small capacitor booster is almost always better (if you have the cargo to spare).
That’s my experience too.
It’s not a big cost to oversize batteries on cruisers and you get a lot in return.
Medium batteries can I guess be useful in case your cruiser fit is tight on powergrid and wants the neut resistance of a battery.
I always thought these were cruiser sized modules since BCs can fit large ones easily and cruisers… well that depends. Guns, MWD, and Plates/ Shield Extenders can leave you no space for a large. Usually the medium battery is "I want 2 large ones, but I have enough PG for the 1st large but not the next”
