Military Campaigns fundamentally flawed?

So, my perspective: I’m a mainly-Gallente player who would like to support the Gallente’s long-term campaign goal.

From the start, the only non-PvP activity open for Gallente was a mining one. This requires all players to mine 450.000.000 m3 of ore, 180.000 m3 at a time. I rushed to this on the first day, finally finding two sites in Verge Vendor. Chaotic and fast (for mining), but went as expected. The sites were empty soon.

First problem: the other available sites were in Guristas Insurgency areas, turning an activity meant for high-sec into a low-sec one. Ok fine, that has passed by now.

Second problem: the sites have their own respawn timers. That means that the objective can only ever be completed once enough ores have even been spawned in. Ok fine, we have 112 days.

But the big problem: each character can only participate once per objective! For the mining objective above, this would require 2500 different characters to personally complete the objective (or 5000 half-way). Easy for some empires, but Gallente will probably struggle to even get that many characters involved, even with other empires helping. For non-mining objectives, the numbers will be different, but the hard limit is the same.

And there is no consolation prize for almost making it (only the personal rewards). A 90% completed objective counts for nothing. 29/30 is the same result as 0/30. So why bother trying if it’s basically impossible? Even if I participate in activities I would normally not, unless we can reach that magical threshold of players who care for each objective, it’s as if I hadn’t done anything at all.

The sad part is that this turns “your actions can change the path of war” into “oh no, not you, you already helped so you’re no longer allowed to”. It’s not about passion or the lack of it; I can literally not help the campaign more unless I train up my alts or create new Alpha accounts. Or get out my credit card and buy weekend passes and barge expert systems by the truckload.

Unless I’m holding it wrong? Please tell me I can still keep contributing with my main and that we have a chance of reaching the end.

Its a group effort, you’re not supposed to be able to carry it on your own, its up to the server to decide which reward they favour the most and which order things will be progressed in, given that there is no penalty for helping the other side there is nothing stopping people from doing the gallente one next if they would rather affect that outcome

But if memory serves the gallente one only changes which faction releases the drone rather than preventing it outright no?

I’m assuming some (all?) of the global campaigns for each Empire are open-ended, like mining for example. Even the Caldari is only at 15% after having stripped all the blue zones for the past few days.

I’m assuming when the “mining” objective returns each Empire picks up where they left off?

They just made it to where you can’t farm the entire campaign in a couple of days on an army of alts and accounts.

Oh trust me, I watched 20+ mining fleets pounce on those asteroid anomalies like they were mining for their lives…

Yeah because the materials are used for the new faction missile mods and are in short supply compared to previous events where you could farm them infinitely

Yes, 140k minerals for a Faction missile guidance computer - equivalent to ~650m ISK.

Biggest problem is single player rewards suck overall. Compared to the previous warpath one, the balance of reward is seriously flawed towards “I wont give you a f”

Mining mission. I did some of the group mining one just for curiosity and having 200k ISK for 4 full pioneers is  … a serious NO (compare the invested time, and doing a similar time investment doing metaliminal meteoroid as example). Not even the reprocessed thing yields any good, even the modules cost an absourd amount of time… guess doing mining missions in exordium is much more profitable… (consider price of these new faction mods is severely inflated by novelty)

Exploring mission. Exploring in a concealed area cramed with people? Suspect timer? Angry warp scrambling mobs? Not worth risk/reward. I I want to lose my boats, covert sites with a junk t1 much better.

PvP mission. Kill X times players equiped with certain green ships. So you need to engage in advanced profile too and be a target for everyone farming the event. If the pay at least covers a significant part of the ship cost, but no. crap payment again considering the very serious risk involved.

Then, you cannot stop oposing factions completing their goals in a warfare manner. All campaign is scripted.

Conclusion. Devs dont play their own game.

I agree that the rewards could be better.

I also don’t see why some of theobjectives are largely bloated, when their other empires’ counterparts are a fraction of the effort

You also have the price of the ore itself. For hacking, half a site never covers for the cost of the ship anyways. This is all just extra reward on top of the normal activity we normally do.

And it seems they don’t even test the content before implementing it…

DMC youve been around how long? Dontcha know… WE are the guinea pigs, WE do the testing and then FC “rebalances” as needed to ensure maximum emotional damage!! :smiling_face_with_horns:

Yeah, I know…

Just wanted to make sure everybody else also knows it…

As for my using the term ‘it seems’, I was actually giving them the benefit of a doubt…

I was hoping that along with them changing their name, they also changed their development / implementation procedure…

Yeah, wishful thinking on my part…

I don’t even really care about the rewards; only having 1 bad option to choose from out of 9 greyed out possibilities is the issue.

Ley us analyse this objetive a bit more. Looking at worldwide BUY offers,

Say C. Kangite, 225isk/u

Say C. Raspite 176 isk/u

Say C. Moissanite. 250isk/u

Say C. Polycrase 153 isk/u

For a said 1m3/u ores, it means a best value of 1.25M/venture (to use a ship metric). Omber t1 is 1.69M/venture. For the least valued one is 0,765M/venture, roughly the same than mining veldspar in high sec which is one of the most horrid and anoying things to do.

And you have to do all at the prescripted bulwark zones (why not open to all empire domains=?=, dedicated miners like the pockets where they have infraestructure), but no, go to a small list of systems and start competiing with hundred of alts for 4h respawn anomalies.

I’ve mined enough to make about 200m in roughly 4 hours. Which is VERY good for high sec mining. The value isn’t the estimated prices you listed, it’s in the modules you can get.

That’s nearly twenty-five cents an hour!

I am happy that people are bringing alts to these, we need more characters getting the max contribution for the events to finish. I’ve been able to complete the task on my character very casually in a prospect for 3 of the empires (choosing not to do the 4th). Even with 200 players in system, the site still lasts 40+ minutes, then it’s on to the next. What down time there is you can use to get things done around the house, eat, do something else, or whatever. No one needs to be mining this stuff all day.
