I didnt know where to put this topic really so I put it in PVE.
I think the mining mutas need some work. For example, it absurd to have a muta that ONLY work with ORE miners, nobody is going to use them, or very few. That is reflected in the price (nearly zero). Unstable Deep Core Strip Mining Muta is 43,000k buy order? Zero demand.
Secondly, I think there are FAR TOO MANY mutas. In my opinion, for what its worth, we need only 4 mining mutas. 1. Regular Miners 2. Strip Miners 3. Gas Miners 4. Ice Miners. Having so many mutas significantly dilutes their value, with most being worthless.
There are many mining modules indeed. Especially for ore equipment it can get muddy with how many categories there are, with how there are ādeep coreā variations that can mine mercoxit and āmodulatedā versions that can use crystals.
Iāve added all categories to a table:
Type \ Size
Regular
Barge-sized
Gas
Gas Cloud Scoop
Gas Cloud Harvester
Ice
Ice Mining Laser
Ice Harvester
Ore
Mining Laser
Strip Miner
Mercoxit
Deep Core Mining Laser
Deep Core Strip Miner
Ore w/ crystals
-
Modulated Strip Miner
Mercoxit w/ crystals
Modulated Deep Core Miner
Modulated Deep Core Strip Miner
This results in 11 categories of mining equipment for 11 types of Mining Mutaplasmids.
To start, I think itās fair that barges and frigates arenāt competing for the same mutaplasmids. The modules they use are a completely different size after all, which is consistent with how for example mutaplasmids for different smartbomb sizes too have different mutaplasmids.
Things do get a bit muddy with how there is overlap between mercoxit and ore equipment (deep core equipment can after all mine regular ore too at reduced rate), I think itās not strange to expect different mutaplasmid categories for the vastly different behaviour of crystal-based mining versus non-crystal mining. Or mercoxit mining versus regular ore mining.
But maybe CCP could combine those categories as thereās a big overlap, and make a general āore/mercoxit strip minerā and āore/mercoxit laserā category, reducing the 11 categories above to 8 or 6.
11 categories of mining equipment with the usual 3 tiers of mutaplasmids each (decayed, gravid, unstable) and youāre looking at 33 mutaplasmids.
Itās a lot, but I donāt think itās much different with how mutaplasmids work elsewhere.
What an absolutely absurd and useless comment. Attitudes like āif you dont like it, dont use itā are not contributing to anything, EVER, including EVE. Iām saying it for the purposes of hopefully making the game better for the people. The fact that those things are optional, is entirely irrelevant. Mutas as a massive part of the game, but you are obviously oblivious to this.
So the next time you donāt really care about something, abstain from commenting.
And I like skins - i dont use them but I buy them.
I agree they work the same as everywhere else. But it does need to be narrowed down. Having a muta that only works on one type of laser that is rarely used compared to everything else, is ridiculous. No, the other mutas do not work the same way. Its like having a shield mutas that only work A-Type Medium Booster, one with B-Type Large boosters, etc. Its ridiculous. While the ORE specific muta has to do with a specific type of laser, its still useless having a muta ONLY for it.
So to fix this (if CCP deems it fixable), you need a lot fewer equipment (which I dont see happening), or a fewer mutas that overlap. I think the solution would be the have fewer mutas that overlap with various equipment.
I was not suggesting barges and frigs compete for the same mutas. They should not.
As a side note, I think they should do the same Muta consolidation for smartbomb mutas. Large, small and medium. Thats it. 90% of smartbomb mutas are junk, worthless really. Pile and piles of junk basically.
Personally I think the problem lies in the existence of the ORE Deep Core Strip Miner, not in the mutaplasmid.
CCP recently added an ORE strip miner specifically for mercoxit mining, even though there is no T1 version for that module at all.
T2 mining suffers greatly from the problem that there is no ālow residueā option and that in high-efficiency scenarios people are ignoring T2 equipment and all the skills that come with it.
CCP recognised that it is an issue, due to the complaints, but went the wrong way for a solution. Instead of fixing T2 equipment and creating possibilities to minimize residue on T2 equipment, they added an ORE miner so that people can now ignore T2 equipment on mercoxit too.
Itās an abomination of a module and shouldnāt exist.
CCP should instead fix the balance between ORE and T2 equipment so that players have a use to bring T2 equipment to efficient mining scenarios.
