specially if the guy has like 20 accounts camping at once xD
That’s jita, not LS or NS
when did this become a “botting” issue? and why do the same guys harp on about “carebears”. i have no issues with a guy that comes in cloaks and waits for an opportunity to drop or solo attack. This is a straight up fight tactic. hanging around for days or weeks just to prevent corps or alliances from ratting or mining is not a fight, it is just an implied thread. the reason CCP doesnt want it to actually stop is all those extra accounts being used to support it. A real solution wouldnt be a gimmick that just makes the guy move a couple of times. a real solution would require effort on the part of the camper, not just the defender.
Indeed, which is why these Mobile Observatories are such a good addition to the game: they allow a little effort by the defender to catch campers who aren’t putting in effort at all.
The campers who do put in some effort by keeping an eye on the game can easily avoid getting caught by these Mobile Observatories. The campers who log in, cloak up and go to work or go to bed will get caught and killed.
Seems like an effective update!
Now I just wish some of the details are worked out better, such as moving capitals with cloaks that require to stay cloaked up to 30 minutes at a time to wait out their jump timer. Those shouldn’t get caught by planting one of these Mobile Observatories.
Align to safe, disable cloak, warp, enable cloak?
Why don’t you just do the Cloaky module differently?
It can run 5/8/10 or 15 minutes but after that it has to cool down for 1 / 0.5 or 3 minutes.
This is the easiest thing that you have to actively play your account and jump around between points during the cooling-off period.
I know that some players will not like it - others would appreciate it.
Yep, it’s as easy as you say it is to avoid getting caught by these Mobile Observatories.
Those Mobile Observatories will only be able to decloak people who either are AFK or are not paying attention, which is the intention of this update. It shouldn’t affect people who are actively playing much, only the ones who are AFK.
That might be the intention, and the only thing people on the non-hunting side see but it won’t be the only thing affected.
There seems to be a massive misunderstanding that somehow the cloak is a short-term hunting/grabbing tool which is completely wrong - you would use something better suited to it if that was what you were trying to do. Local prevents that being its use. There is no mwhaha surprise moment when everybody knows you’re there and active. Its power is (was) that you can watch and wait patiently for somebody to get impatient, that they don’t know whether you’re active or not.
That might be seen as a dull tactic, but it’s been a last resort for hunters when everything is stacked in favour of them missing out on catching anything. They can’t force or even encourage players to come out and actively defend their territory and everything is hidden behind long timers / HP resulting in an undesirable format of (boring) blobby F1 bashing when they’ve pulled everybody within a region to come and defend it the next day.
That’s the problem with CCP doing this, they’ve nerfed a symptom and not looked into the underlining cause. Or if I’m being cynical, they just don’t care.
Exactly… because with this item they know you are there (local) and active (the mobile observatory) there is no surprise or stealth.
Even if you can destroy the observatory easily what does that do? State your intentions. So it still proves again you are active and aggressive. AKA dock up. So as a hunter you are not necessarily motivated to destroy it, displaying your intentions, but then again you are heavily penalized for not destroying it because it forces you to decloak every 15 mins as a punishment even if you are active.
This is why local still needs a nerf in some fashion, on top of it not forcing actives to decloak. The combination of the two results in 100% safety.
omg what a great punishment being de cloaked for few seconds! usually cloaky campers uses bombers or even t3 cruisers. the guy just need to bounce in few safe spots and cloak again. omg I can’t play anymore cause I can’t grief/ deny other people content without a chance of being caught anymore unsubing.
now seriously that changes nothing to active players. ccp nerfed Afk mining you all aprove. ccp nerfs Afk ratting you all aprove. ccp try to nerf AFK the most possible everyone a prove. now when it gets to nerf AFK gameplay on your 30 camping toons the world is falling apart?
just be at KB and you will be fine.
Yeah, said from someone that never hunts I imagine. Normally it takes much longer than 15 minutes of watching, waiting, positioning around moving objects, space trash, etc. Many times hours. So, every (less than 15 mins) I have to stop everything I am doing to warp off, recloak, warp back and reposition, etc. Losing eyes and opportunity in the process. Why does it take so long? LOCAL because the infinite all powerful intel they have to do NOTHING for, the I am forced to wait there for so long.
That is a giant penalty. It is much worse on active players than inactive players who can just sit at a deep safe and click a button every 15 minutes to psych you out.
not like you do no. we usually hunt stuff fitted for pvp.
wrong. every 15 min you have a 40% chance of needing to do that. and even so lol such a big effort to warp and cloak …
and who is forcing you? if you don’t want to wait go hunt ppl who is actually looking for a fight and stop chasing the ones who are not.
So you have to do something once every 15 minutes? And that’s too hard to do for you?
P.S.: Don’t be afk.
It helps to think about what the person wrote so as to not look like a whiny dips**t. People are talking about side effects of this item on players OTHER than the cloaky campers. IE the collateral damage.
moving a very large ship, such as a capital can’t use a cover cloak. So in a case of say a carrier, you are talking about trying to bounce safes while waiting out a 30 second cooldown, in a ship that can be combat scanned faster than it’s align time.
there wouldnt be collateral damage if ccp only dealt with afk (long term) camping. again , the simple answer was to require fuel for cloaks or have a timer with cooldown, (like they did with nullification). instead we get a clunky device that will soon be just as wonderful as the ESS bounty modifier .
As to the whiners about the infallible intel provided to the defenders, hunters get dotlan, the agency with set destination buttons , ice belt locations, , a hunter gets plenty of free information. i liked the game more when “hunting” meant actually hunting .
Not the fuel again. Cloak fuel has magnitudes more “collateral damage” vs these mobile observatories.
I mean lol at that being in any way, remotely comparable
That’s like comparing the market in Aridia with Jita and then saying well you can buy things in both places
That seems to be the thing here. There’s a big difference between people who know what they’re talking about because they’ve got experience doing it and the apologists that don’t

Not the fuel again.
I think they bring up fuel to make us feel glad we got the trash we did. “Choke on this…feel glad we didn’t make you have fuel”.
The whiners should start figuring out the next nerf they need from CCP. Perhaps the observatories should send out flying monkey NPCs to automatically destroy any ship that gets decloaked.
