Cloaky Camping is still garbage and CCP has not done anything to help with this situation. When you have a single person running 25 accounts, of which half are AFK, and able to keep people from ratting, CCP has a problem. Fix the Mobile observatories and take this cloak defense bull crap away. There should be no cloak defense for these MOBOBs and it should ping more often than every 10 min to make sure some one is active camping. Please fix this For the 900th time.
How do you know half are AFK?
Mr Epeen
So how much do cloaked ships screw up botting these days?
I get the distinct impression that null-sec would really like to build a wall… (maybe a future mining project)
i am more confused how 1 guy running 25 accounts can be half afk, does he have only 12 monitors or is he half lobotomized?
Isn’t this a null-sec requirement? F1…
If they’re afk, then they’re no threat to you.
Rat away to your heart’s content.
CCP has already done something about this (non)issue: mobile observatories. Worried about a cloaky camper, setup an observatory, probe them down and kill them. Problem solved.
People have been crying about cloaky campers for 20 years.
It’s never enough, carebears always want more. They added options to decloak these “afk” players but somehow… it’s still not enough. It’s almost as if it doesn’t matter what CCP changes or makes easier, people will whine anyway so they might as well decide to not listen to them at all.
I have to think that at least half of the afk cloakers are doing this just for the spite and tears.
They do it to economically disrupt their opponents. It’s a low level, no effort method of psychological warfare.
The tears and complaints are merely a delicious bonus.
Good indicator that the mechanic should have been balanced more towards active options to decloak these campers already.
Really, I am all for PvP and risk in this game, I am literally the last person wanting risk-free gameplay or PvE-only modes or super-protection from attacks… but perma-cloakies are causing nothing but frustration for a large amount of players (which is never good for the game as a product).
And the “options” someone has are completely out of balance, it is often much more expensive and effort to even have a chance of catching one of these cloakycampers than it is to send a cloaky in to a system to “threaten” the locals with the possibility to get cynojumped any second.
The game should have active countermeasures to even put pressure on active cloakies, forcing them to move and pay attention at all times. And cheap&easy methods to remove those cloakies who dare to leave the PC, even for a couple of minutes. The same applies for everyone: If you go away from your PC: log out or go docking.
I’m a wormholer. I’m always operating on the assumption there’s a cloaky in system with me.
Granted, I can’t get cyno dropped and my biggest risk is being rolled into right as I go into siege.
Back in my newbro nullsec days I regularly spun a haven in a VNI with a cloaky in system. Never got dropped on. I confess this was some time ago.
For the 910th time: How about you get better at the game and actively engage the cloaky campers. Bait them at every possible encounter, defend your MOOBs so that they have to stay active or log off. Basically, play the game and provide the safety and security in the lawless area of space that you want to enjoy.
For the 911th time: Thats completely inefficient. You always pay a lot more in ISK and effort to set up traps, baits, MoObs than the cloakycamper invest just to steal your time and having the chance to kill someone when bringing in the cynofleet at the right moment. And you still, after all that paid and done, have very slim chances to actually remove him if he just wants to stay and put the pressure up. And even IF you do, he can send the next CovOps/Bomber for a 50 million ISK to repeat, while even your MoOb was more expensive.
Stop telling that nonsense, it’s simply not true and especially has nothing to do with “being good at the game”. It is a question of balance, how much effort and costs do you burden on each side to put pressure on the opponent to force him to do certain things to ensure his safety? And this is currently completely imbalanced.
If null-sec logged off for a month I bet CCP would fix this in short order.
It’s not completely unbalanced. Every bit of less cloaky camping potential just makes it easier for bots. It’s also not that expensive to counter cloaky campers. I have been on the receiving end of counter drops when people actually paid attention to what we were doing instead of just yolo’ing into space. I have also been on the receiving end of minimal counter combat efforts to prevent me from intefering with their mining or PVE efforts.
We are also on an equal level playing field: They know we are there, they know what we are doing, and we know what they are doing, thanks to local, which means actually expensive and hard measures like in W-space are not necessary.
Putting pressure on null sec farmers should not be harder. What you want is an easier time for clueless, unprepared and unwilling-to-prepare farmers. That’s not what will make EVE a better experience. Just yesterday, I had to witness complete cluelessness when some mindless person tried to scoop their POS while we had a char in system. They managed to get their hauler out (thanks WCS) from our tackle and thus knew that we were there. Yet, moments after we left the system, the person went back to the tower for another scoop attempt. This time, we tackled his ship properly and he died. Dumb behavior like this should not go unpunished.
It is. And all the rest of your post is just theoretical “blah”. I can put a 50M CovOps into your system and you could do nothing to stop me as long as I am active. And you will never know if I am just there to do mindgames or if I actually have a 20 man BO/T3 fleet in the back.
So your “counter” for my 50M investment (that I can remove any time I want by going away or logging off) is to form a “counter fleet” that could possibly hold a BO drop? Wasting dozens of peoples time for a completely uncertain engagement that might come or not come, might come in 30 minutes or in 4 hours? Or tomorrow? Investing at least 65M for a MoOb with a chance of 0% to catch an active cloaky, well, semi-active because I can simply re-cloak every 12 minutes and so have an unlimited amount of decloaking-defense.
Sorry, you are talking just crap. The effort for the defenders is magnitudes higher because they simply can’t know what the cloaky has in the back, so they always have to prepare as if he had a cynofleet ready, while he can come and go, log in log out, wasting everyones time and money for a cheap 50M investment that he doesn’t even need to put on any risk of losing.
Say it with me
If he’s afk he can’t hurt you
There’s no need to be sorry. You can rat in a cheap 15M Vexor and make as much ISK as an Isthar or similarly expensive ship. Thanks to CCP, mind you. Rarely anyone engages that stuff and its cost is recovered in 1 site.
It’s also wrong that you don’t know what someone is up to. After a drop or two, you know the chars that attack you. Killboards tell you their ships and fittings and even their active times. You can locator agent them and have a scout in their staging system. If they move, you repeat the locator. A shuttle is enough to see what they are doing. That’s a 30k ISK investment + 500k for the Locator.
People who don’t use these and other tools available to dissuade campers are simply not good enough and no amount of handholding will improve their situation.
It’s nice to know that everyone has at least one gripe with the main region they reside in…
