Multiple Citadels In the Same System

I can see why a corp might make an athanor in a system they already have a Tarata. If the moons are good and you can defend your miners, why not? So if you had a Tarata and 5 Athanors but there was yet another valuable moon, I can understand why they’d anchor yet another Athanor. I can also understand why a corp might put a Fortizar or Keepstar in such a system. But unlike Athanors, Fortizars don’t extract extra value for the owners. So unlike refineries, spamming them doesn’t seem to do anything. If you have 7 refineries and a Keepstar in a system, anchoring a Fortizar or 2 in the same system doesn’t make sense. One of my corpmates remembers back when Fraternity and TEST were invading Delve, the Imperium actually did anchor multiple Fortizars in the outer regions of Delve, but while they were able to anchor the citadels before the invasion got there, the extra forts didn’t actually save the systems they were in from falling. Also cores weren’t a thing apparently?

They make a whole lot of sense:

  • They are a multitude of retreat points and extraction points if you need to get assets out of an area.
  • They block space around important points (like KS) so that no one else can anchor structures in good attack positions.
  • They require attackers to invest much more time in removing them due to the timers
  • They make it harder for hostiles to prevent sov holders from using their space
  • They give several warp to points for ratting people so that it’s not as easy to catch them with stop bubbles on a single structure.
  • They also give important vantage points on gates from which you can camp and overlook strategic entry locations into specific areas.

I’m adding another:

  • it allows capital ships to be prepared to jump to a fight from tether in multiple locations in system, so they cannot all easily be bubbled at the same time by hostiles the moment escalation should start

What do you mean by this? The sov upgrades I think applies even if hostiles are in local. Do you mean the extra citadels make it easier for ratters to flee to safety.
