My experience of progressing in PvE

I have to ask… is this another Bakster Kane alt?

My gripe with the big NPC in Serpentis Narcotics warehouse is it does not have the resistance profile of normal Serpentis Rats. Its also extremely fast and deadly afaik. But with some patience and skill you can take it out in a cruiser anyway :victory_hand:

edit This is actually the Serpentis DED 4/10 i was thinking off. Beg my pard. That container inside the hollow asteroid also never seems to drop anything good.

No, not Bakster. Bakster is incompetent in a different way. Much more spam and pushing his own agenda, less clueless noob.

Edit: I did not realize he posted right after you.

I think a new players first month of playing this game should be focused on understanding game mechanics, gaining experience at interacting with the game UI and developing knowledge to properly fit and operate their ship..

They should be concentrating on training both Career oriented skills along with support skills to boost stats for their Frigate / Destroyer ships, especially since most of those support skills will carry over to larger ship hull class… Not to mention the Level 1 Career Agents give new players an assortment of free Tech 1 Frigate and Destroyer ships…

Trying to quickly jump into larger hull class ships and higher difficulty level content without being prepared beforehand is foolhardy and sorry to say this, just plain stupid… Eve Online is not a game designed for those with an ‘Instant Gratification’ mentality, this is a long term game requiring proper planning to prevent poor performance…

Serpentis Hideaway is a Class 1 Combat Anomaly…
Serpentis Refuge is a Class 3 Combat Anomaly…

Big difference in difficulty level between those sites…

Class 1 sites are designed to be easily completed by new players in Tech 1 Frigates and Destroyers… Class 3 sites are designed to be easily completed by new players in Tech 1 Cruisers…

As for advancement, you conveniently left out the next level of content progression, the Serpentis Burrow Class 2 Combat sites which are designed to be easily completed in Tech 1 Frigates and Destroyers by new players with proper skills and ship fitting…

Since your post is centered on doing DED 3/10 sites, it’s obvious you’re in a rush and jumping the gun without being properly prepared while trying to get ‘Instant Gratification’ from content that’s designed for long term engagement…

Now if you don’t have the correct ship fit and support skills trained to complete those sites solo, there’s no shame in stepping back and taking some time to train up support skills and build better ship fits before advancing into higher difficulty level content…

Course since this game is an MMO, try forming a fleet with a couple of other players who have the same level of skill as yourself… I’m sure you’ll find it’s a lot more fun and much easier to complete those sites with a group of players compared to running solo… And in the process you’ll probably make some long lasting friendships…

So what if he’s lacking skills? I will train them. I will prioritize for what I need first, and less important stuff will be trained into later on. I’m not gonna pay for something I get for ‘‘free’’ with a subscription anyway.

What you’re talking about is something only for those kids who failed the Stanford marshmallow experiment when they were little. And some are gonna be offended now when I spell it out – but the kids who failed that test did not do as good later in life as the ones who passed it.

And yes, I’ve only ever paid for Omega. I never bought PLEX with real money, I never bought SP, or anything else that might be available in the EVE Store. I have no need for insta-inject SP (Fenris regularly doles them out for free anyway) or any other instant ‘‘reward’’. I’ve always played the long game, and I’ve always been happy about it. Because everything I have in this game – is the result of my skills (not SP, but game skills) and personal abilities, as opposed to money. And I’m proud of that.

Doing serpentis burrows or level 1 security missions does not give enough money to afford a 15 mil cruiser tho

Have you tried fighting more valuable rats elsewhere? Selling their loot?
Or tried doing a different activity?

It’s fairly easy to earn ISK, even as a new player with low skills.

You can get that on a day 1 toon just by mining…

And mining is one of the slowest ways to earn ISK if you do it in HS. Even then it’s possible to get that 15m ISK.

the more valuable rats in Level 2/3 security missions, Serpentis DED 3, etc, require a cruiser, otherwise i would not have this problem.

You can’t even figure out how to afford an entry level cruiser, but you’re so certain you understand what is required to complete this content?

Everyone here is saying i need a cruiser.

whatever, hopefully the devs do something to make it so players can actually afford a Cruiser by just doing pve in high sec, without it taking a long time or days.

I just told you. You can get that amount by simply mining on a day 1 toon…

First off, it’s an MMO, grinding is part of the game. Secondly just doing the career agents gives you enough to afford a cruiser.

What do you feel would be an appropriate amount of time for a new player to spend farming for a cruiser?

Well, I’m not surprised that’s all you got from my reply…

Trying to quickly jump ahead into a larger ship hull without being properly prepared, either in skill training, game knowledge or ISK amount, is your problem…

You’ll have a much more enjoyable game experience if you drop the ‘Instant Gratification’ mentality and approach the game as long term engagement content..

Shh, no one tell her about how long skill training takes or we’ll never hear the end of it…

bro, ty for reminding me.

i hate the entire idea of having to wait years for skills to train, and THEN being able to play the game, that i am simply not training my skills at all. Only the bare minimum.

This way i can actually play the game, instead of having to wait 3-5 years for skills to train before i can play the game.

Hello Kitty Adventure Island is that way ----> You missed that left turn back there at Albuquerque…
