My main account crashes my computer

This has been an ongoing problem for me but I have just noticed something that’s I haven’t noticed before. My 4090 64g laptop crashes. It switches the screen off, I can still hear sound but I have to long press the power off button to restart my computer. Sometimes it resets my settings like display color, overview and drone folders. This used to mostly happen in or leaving a station or viewing a menu or clicking on something in a menu like your hanger or opportunities.

Up until recently I have only ever had 1 account but I have now opened another with an alpha character and I have noticed that it doesn’t do it on that account. I have also noticed that it mostly does it when I first start the game and it is now happening a lot when I open opportunities and click on the events icon and when I set destination to one of the vanguards sites. Can anyone please help this is a big problem. Thanks.

Would start with →

  • Switch to DX11: In the launcher you can switch between DX12 and DX11.
    • Click the cogwheel in the top right.
    • Select Game Client on the left.
    • In the Select DirectX version, choose DirectX 11.

Thanks m8, but I’ve already done that.

I’ve done everything in the link too.

Best to get with the Technical Support folks then:

Apparently it’s a me problem that one of my accounts on the same computer crashes my system and they want nothing to do with it and won’t help. “Thank you for submitting a bug report. We appreciate you taking the time to contact us, however the issue in question is not supported by EVE Online directly or deals with outside factors/services beyond our control. You may have luck speaking with other Capsuleers about this issue through our forums”

Several suggestions:
Are your drivers up to date?
Can you switch the GPU?
Can you log in on another machine?
Can you move your character out of the system/station thats crashing your computer - preferably fly to where your alpha account is and test it out?

I had this problem about 10 years ago where a certain station model would crash my EVE. But that was on Linux.

If something like this was a thing for many, the forums would be full. So i would continue to try to narrow it down…using another computer, using a different GPU, doing a RAM test.

Maybe it is also again a windows update interfering or your system. You can also try reinstalling the game and/or your operating system and/or down- or upgrade your graphics drivers.

Thanks for your reply m8. I’ve done everything you say and more. I haven’t got another computer to test though. I’ve spent hours on the phone with the manufacturer and done tests they’ve asked me to and there doesn’t seem to be anything wrong with my computer. It’s strange that it doesn’t do it with my other account. It did it earlier and completely reset every setting, even things like my drone bay, when I turned it back on. I’m not sure how a faulty computer could do that. It’s not happened since but sometimes it can go a couple of weeks. Entering and leaving stations it often happens but lately opening menus causes it a lot. I did it earlier and when I logged back in it did it again before I even got into the station. That was the time it reset everything. “CCP” are not interested and won’t help. That’s 22 years of loyalty for you.

I opened a ticket explaining everything and they wouldn’t help. I replied and asked if it was possible to move my character to my other account but they had closed the ticket so they never recieved that.

Sorry that i can’t help you any further.

Can’t you go to a friends house or to another PC in the family to install the client to test and try to fly the character out to the area where your Alpha doesn’t have the problems?

If you don’t have any of those options, then you found out that having only one PC and that being a gaming laptop is a bad situation for debugging such problems.

If i had those problems, i would start looking on a second PC or switching around GPUs, drivers and ultimately the SSD while doing a complete reinstall to narrow the problem down.
All that on a second SSD at least or while constantly imaging the other SSD to a NAS or external harddisk.

If this is your only computer however this would also mean massive amounts of downtime and no easy procedure.

So sadly i got no further advice for you aside from more far fetched stuff like maybe using Geforce Now to do it.
