PC freezing

Greetings Capsuleers,

Recently (December) i have purchased a new PC and keep having issues while playing Eve with 3+ accounts.

PC doesn’t freeze with 2 accounts, and even with multiple accounts open it doesn’t flinch but just randomly freezes and the only option for me is to hard reset my PC to restart. Nothing works.

I have played Eve previously on my laptop of about 5-6 years old with 3 accounts and never had this problem.

My PC parts are:
AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D
Asus TUF Gaming B650-PLUS WIFI
Corsair Vengeance 128 GB 6000Mhz (i know)
Asus TUF GEFORCE RTX 4080 Super OC

MSI MAG 341 QD-OLED Monitor

Running on Windows 11 Pro

What i have tried:

Limit my FPS on my monitor to 144 Hz and have V-Sync on.
Switch out ram sticks, 2 by 2 then one by one.
And some other minor stuff i found on the internet regarding the same problem.

So i am struggling with this problem for over a month now and hope anyone on this forums can help me out.

It’s a memory leak and it appears they don’t want to even acknowledge it, let alone fix it.

Or it’s a hardware issue. I can run 4 accounts at the same time with no problem on a system that doesn’t even have half those specs…

You might want to check the Issues and Workarounds section for threads like this that may be related:

One quick thing to try is just switching back to DX11 (if you’re running DX 12) and see if that changes anything. And the usual ‘check for updated graphics drivers’ etc.

Other than that I’d check some of the results from a Google search on something like “eve online pc freeze 3 accounts”.

as in freeze? is this a BSOD watchdog error by any chance?

Several possible issues.

  • first of all AM5 really doesn’t like using 4 dimm slots and what you stated doesn’t really specify if you tried just using 2 sticks or not. If not, go try that.

  • make sure you use a BIOS version that actually supports the 9800X3d, so get the latest one

  • set the launcher to use DX11, see if that helps

  • I’m assuming you have virtual memory disabled, given your total ram. Enable it again and see if that solves it

  • what kind of SSD do you have?

  • can you list the exact brand and type of memory you have

I have switched back to 11, will wait for the results

Where can i see that?

This ones so common it’s almost a meme at this point and for that reason I always tend towards two or three larger sticks versus four or six smaller ones. Even on chipsets where the issue has not been reported, so I’d definitely check that first.

As for virtual memory - this is enabled by default and even own-brand pc builders can end up leaving it on, if it is enabled, try disabling it, or setting it to the cursory minimum so you still get your kernel dump.

Disable Auto Restart so you can actually read your BSOD and google it’s error message, and always try to analyse memory/kernel dumps after, even if most of it is gibberish, it’s all google-able. These days you can plop it in chatgpt and get a reasonable answer.

With regards to spec requests from players - download Speccy* and do screen shots of your Motherboard, CPU, RAM and Storage pages, with the details expanded so make/model numbers are visible.

NB Speccy has gone a bit crap of late and I’m on the lookout for a minimal tool such as it, but haven’t found one and for the sake of brevity, didn’t want to suggest the 4 or 5 other applications I would be using as alternatives.

Last time I had a similar issue it was due to bad blocks on the SSD corrupting some Windows files. I think in my case the programs for reducing time spent on background processes. Try running…

sfc/ scannow

in Powershell and see what comes up. It should fix Windows file corruption.

i shall take your answer as a no it is not…
cause if it was you would not have missed/mistaken it for anything else.

But just in case, win 11 had some default programs that came with it that would screw with your personal settings for things…

For me I had to delete those programs, then go into my Bios and reset how things were supposed to work…and then redownload and reinstall my MSI and GPUIDMonitor programs the update had deleted on me.

For starters, can you check if you are using DX12 or DX11 (control+F) while logged in.

In your Launcher settings, you can fall back to DX11.

Very similar issues here i have another post on the same forum

you are not alone!!

Not an AMD issue as I have Intel installed.
Same issues here. I have done all the EVE tricks to get it to work and it’s just not happening. I have literally gone above and beyond to get this figured out just to name a few, tried different ram , switched back to my 3060 from my 4070 back to the 4070, new M.2 drive. Fresh windows install (should have stayed with windows 10 may do that later)
I have stress tested every component, checked and rechecked drivers. Did a deep dive for Malware and Viruses. (new M.2 and fresh windows install took of care of that after the deep dive)
checked dump files normal windows junk in there. Only updates I ever download are for stupid Windows, Eve, and my graphics driver. So how can my computer not run eve. I guess I downloaded alan wake II but that was to check if it would crash… guess what It DIDN’T!

Just to find out there may be a Windows 24H2 and Eve update issue.

Edit: I’m running 6 clients dumbed down graphics (use to be ultra settings) DX11 or 12 doesn’t matter issues with both.
Windows 11 24h2
i7 10700f liquid cooled
RTX 4070
128 gb ddr4
M.2 ssd

Not sure if related but maybe someone finds this useful:

Thanks for all the input. Problem still very much active after everything. I’ll see what the GM comes with that is handeling my ticket.

Not very positive about it. 200% sure its a CCP issue. This problem is popping up everywhere now from what i see on forums.
