That worries me. A Cormorant should be cranking out more than 100 DPS at range.
There are good general gunnery skills that improve the turret DPS (and range and tracking). Worth investing the time in.
All T1 combat battlecruisers get a bonus to range. Fit them with the long range turrets: Beam Lasers, Rail guns, Artillery, and you’ll have a good long range mission ship that can also mount a good defence. The attack battlecruisers are glass cannons.
A beam Harbinger is a good mission ship. I’m Amarrian: anything else is godless proto-wreckage.
And the Medium Micro Jump Drive (MMJD) is invaluable for someone who wants to pink away at targets from range.
I own an Oracle (the Amarr Attack Battlecruiser) - but that’s for structure demolition fleets when I need it.
I could be calculating wrong as well, lots to consider in this game…
With 7 125mm gauss loaded with thorium, plus new skill from last night my main cormy is getting 102 dps. This is just from adding up each turrets dps from what I see in the fittings window.
Edit: How do tell the difference between combat/attack battlecruisers?
Generally people quote the maximum DPS with short range ammunition.
You get another 10% or so damage from Faction ammunition, such as Imperial Navy Multifrequency crystals, as well. But faction ammunition is more expensive than standard ammo - mission runners often stick to standard.
Attack Battlecruisers are the ones with Bonuses to enable them to fit Large weapons. Combat Battlecruisers are the more conventional and flexible medium turret ships.
The Empires normally have two Combat Battlecruiser hulls and an Attack Battlecruiser. Then add in a Navy Faction Combat variant as well (better, more expensive).
Have a look at the Ferox if you are going down the Caldari hybrid path.
I tend to fly Heavy Assault Cruisers for Level 3 missions - I’d forgotten the new Navy BC hulls though I vaguely recall flying a Navy Turkey Prophecy before going back to my Zealot.
So saying, the Navy Harbinger is a thing of joy.
Longer player, too much ISK, too many skills.
But I do remember being poor and learning.
Man, you’re such a killjoy. Maybe you should get out more… I never suggested he should run out and buy a Machariel. I merely pointed out that it’s a popular ship for L3s (and it does very well at blitzing L4s).
No need to reply - I know you and some of the other hyenas on the forums always insist on having the last word.
OK. Might have to get myself a Ferox Navy Issue. Looks like a highly capable mission ship. Big bonus to shield boosting cap use and solid damage bonus.
150m ISK. Steep for a new-ish player.
One other thing - don’t fret cap stability. You’ll learn to balance the demands.
So I compared ferox to my other ships, and bought one. I dont think ive ever been so impressed with a ship so far, for what im doing its perfect!
Better DPS, range, tank, fits scanning and has a drone bay.
I think ill save up for a spare while working on skills.
Do you think a Ferox could do lvl 3s?
Yeah, it’s designed for it and actually very good.
A Naga would have more damage and projection, a drake is better for long missions, and a mach would be even faster, but ferox is very good nevertheless.
Yep. It’s a pretty good Level 3 mission ship.
Make sure you’ve got a flight of light drones to deal with anything small and fast that closes you down, or MJD away and plink them.
Many years ago I flew a mission fitted railgun Moa. Railguns have poor tracking - she struggled in missions because of small ships getting too close. Better once I moved to the lower calibre medium railgun (200mm has better tracking) and fitted a webifier.
Both will offer high DPS but neither “reasonable” accuracy as both missions and sites will have abundant frigates and destroyers which will be your doom once they get close enough to orbit you. Attack battlecruisers are quite specialized ships with the weapons/DPS of battleships (or even more than) and the survivability of destroyers if not frigates. Naga leans more into sniping with up to 50% more optimal range than Talos and also more mid slots for tracking computer(s). Talos is more for brawling with just enough tracking bonus to make large blasters hit at all on cruisers and such and, as you noted, a few drones to clear tackle. Then you have Oracle with lasers (mid-range weapon system with the best tracking) and Tornado (fastest ship, select-able damage type and highest damage in a single shot)
