Need help figuring out next step for L4 sec missions

Hello friends! I’m a returning player from about 4-5 years ago and have been back for about 2 months so far. I’ve been running L4 sec missions in my Gila and am wondering what the next step ship-wise would be, active or passive is fine but more on the passive side is preffered.
https://eveskillboard.com/pilot/Poptart_Truffles_Toaster is my skill layout which is kind of all over the place.
Any and all help is appreciated!

I normally ran L4’s in a Raven, but I recently upgraded to a Golem, which were designed to run L4’s.

I see, i’ll look into a Golem for the future then, thank you for the advice!

Logical step up from Gila is the Rattlesnake. Technique is different - use the MJD to pull range. Wardens and cruise missiles can hit well beyond 100Km. A basic T2 fit:

Drone Damage Amplifier II

Large Micro Jump Drive
Adaptive Invulnerability Field II
Large Shield Extender II

Best advise is find a ship you like the looks of (after all you’ll be looking at it heaps), and play test fits on the test server till you find that idea fit for you.

Then copy that fit to the live server.

Sure you could do the boring copy know good fit, but there’s no fun in that.

If you enjoy running L4 security missions, you may eventually want a fleet of ships to handle the different types of missions that get thrown at you.

Personally I’ve found these ships to be fairly efficient at their tasks, especially if you single box:

  • Machariel (or possibly Barghest or favorite cruiser) for blitzing missions when you can’t decline missions (if you care about standings).

  • Rattlesnake, Machariel, Nightmare, etc…, or Marauder for the missions with good bounties. Arty ship like Mach or Vargur is probably best to pop Scarlet twice.

  • Marauder for the very few missions left that are worth full clearing (bounty, loot, salvage). @dewk is spot on about looks, especially for long missions. All the Marauders are nice looking and are great at this task, but for cool factor to stare at for hours on end, Kronos was the one for me. :sunglasses:

  • Sniper battleship for drone missions, since drones generally don’t drop good loot or salvage, and sniping is a fun alternative playstyle. I personally use a sniping Vindicator for this.

  • And if you are interested in burner missions, that may require its own fleet of ships as well, and there’s guides for that within these forums.

If you are patient, it will likely take you months to acquire such a fleet with the income from this style of mission running. There are also guides on how to really ramp up the flow of isk from missions, but can lead to burn out and/or standing loss. It’s also good to change things up and try other types of content that EVE has to offer, to relieve boredom and possibly discover other income streams as well.

Yeah i’ve been finding spamming the missions to be a little tedious nowadays, thanks for the info though! I’ll do what the above said also with the test server and try those ships out.

Aside from missions what are your longer term goals? I think burners are great as they develop frig/cruiser skills and make good income. Imo those are more fun skills than battleship skills the way things are these days. If you pick up skills for the daredevil and garmur you can do most of the frigate burners. Also sounds like the new trig AF can do most burners if you want to concentrate your SP.

Also for missions what do you want to do? As said above there’s a bunch of good looking options for different play styles. If you are already finding things getting tedious moving up to a big lazy battleship probably isn’t going to help.

@Chainsaw_Plankton I wanted to eventually be able to pilot a thanatos for ratting or start up my own mining fleet with my alts. For now that’s all I have in mind for long term.

Gila can run level 4s? Are you using a pricey fit? Or taking your time?

I have always loved my Vargur, only thing you need is swap ammo types, its so dam strong, you can bastion up then just shoot n salvage at same time, job done.
I can fly the Kronos, but haven’t bought one, just not sure how its limited range with blasters will go?

Most Kronos fits will end up giving you 40-43km for AM and around 70km for Null. I originally used rails for my Kronos many years ago and thought I would never change; I was wrong and have never looked back over the last several years. Just jump into the thickest amount of the enemy you can find, bastion up, release your MTU, start killing, and release your salvage drones early as you work your way down the target priority list. Less than 5% chance I’ll need my combat drones, so by the time the last enemy is down, my MTU is done, and the salvaging drones (+ my own salavager) are near finished, I’m merely waiting for my current Bastion cycle to finish before moving on. A very lazy and easy way to mission, you just cannot afk it.
The burners, on the other hand, are a completely different experience.

@Complex_Math I can run a mission in 10-30 minutes and just leave it alone if I don’t salvage everything also. I have like a 600m fit.

Blaster Kronos is about 1000dps with null 18km+40km
Railgun Kronos is about 900DPS with Javelin 25km+69km

These are with my kronos fits.

What about Raven navy issue vs Tengu?

Haven’t done level 4 yet, but I have skills for both ships. Can fit cruise missiles t2 and assault heavy t2.
Which will enable me to do missions fast as possible?
